New Medical system
Interesting article about the new medical system. You don't even have to sign up for it. Just present your visa card. Much like Canada.

It's not on my Inmigrado card... their mistake because it was on my FM2. However, I have a copy of it from Spencer's office.

This seems too good to be true. How can Mexico afford to be so generous? Covering foreigners? Makes no sense.

You are correct. It is on the drivers license and it is the same as my RFC number.

But gee Bob don't you know even the United States would go bankrupt if they ever contemplated socialized medicine. Not to even mention the "death panels" that would be needed to decide who doesn't deserve to be treated.
Let's see what transpires as the new program rolls out. I reserve judgement.

That is assuming that they live long enough to survive the wait times!

Sorry Bob didn't catch my sarcasm. He knows me better than that.
I have a Daughter in Westchester NY with top-of-the-line health insurance. She's waited far longer for diagnostic procedures than my wife did 6 months ago here in Jalisco on a similar ailment.
Cut the crap on inferior health care with universal care. Â Maybe for the 1 percenters. Look at the comparison of USA private health care outcomes to the rest of the G8 - infant mortality, life expectancy and other key measures.

Re: New Medical system
Ive never had a problem with Canadian healthcare. Cancer, broken bones, etc. are treated almost immediately. Sure some non life threatening tests have some wait times.
I'm hoping this new system works out fairly good so I can drop our 6K a year Insurance.

Re: New Medical system
I have had both of my hips replaced. Both replacements were done in the U.S. and I don't believe that any corners were cut, however, the second joint failed after just a few weeks. One day I was doing my physical therapy when I heard the joint squeaking. A couple of days later the squeak went away and the burning pain started. That sumbitch hurt!
Even in the good ol' U.S. of A. I had to wait, in pain, for about three months before the surgeon would redo the hip replacement. I, an American, had to wait! I've never heard of such a thing. And, that is how I know exactly how it is to be Canadian.
This happened in 2009 and I blame Donald Trump.

Re: New Medical system
I just came across this article. Remember Health Care isn't just treatment after the fact.
Full disclosure. I want Americans to provide their country with universal health care.

Bad news for Yankees: The United States didn't even make the top 30 healthiest countries on Earth! According to the annual Bloomberg Healthiest Country Index, Spain came in the top spot for 2019, followed by Italy at No. 2, then Iceland, Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, Australia, Singapore, Norway, and Israel, respectively. What qualifies for healthy in these cases? Factors included life expectancy, obesity rates, tobacco use, sanitation, access to clean water, and climate. Experts speculate that the popularity of the Mediterranean diet (which can lead to lower cholesterol and reduced risk of heart disease and Alzheimer's) in Spain and Italy are what helped them edge out the competition. Spain also has a national health system, providing access to preventative care to its citizens."

Re: New Medical system
Why do you folks have to digress into other Countries Health Care Systems..Lets stay on what is happening with SP and share what experiences you receive...as always the devil is in the detail and already there are conflicting options of what is actually being proposed...and when its "clear" look out for various employees and hospitals making different interruptions on what "WE/GRINGOS" are entitled to

Re: New Medical system
The reason these threads often digress into other Countries Health Care Systems is because many expats have a choice between choosing treatment here or there. The more information that is posted here will enable some to make a more informed decision.
As an expat in Mexico I do not see myself as entitled to the same benefits as Mexican Nationals, but that is just my opinion. It is a political fluid situation. In a perfect world, then yes Expats will receive the same care and benefits as Mexican Nationals but we do not live in a perfect world anymore, especially after the last two years. Elections have consequences.

Re: New Medical system
Bob, yes you are correct when you say the permanent residents in Canada also get free health care but have you checked the requirements to be eligible for PR status ? I was once a holder of a PR card and I can tell you that they want to make sure that you are bringing something to the Canadian economy as well be being medically fit. I had to get tested for AIDS as well as tuberculosis.
The entire process was well over a year. Obviously if you try to apply for a Canadian PR when you are already retired its probably mission impossible or you are very wealthy.

Re: New Medical system
Canada doesn't need or want retired expats with their money like Mexico needs and wants. To them we are all wealthy.........

They want working tax payers.......
The US limits Canadians (and any other expat retirees) to 6 calender months of the year.

Re: New Medical system
It seems to be the poorer countries that hand out permanent residency visas without much qualification. Show them you are bringing a fairly small amount of money into the country every month and viola.....welcome aboard.
