Rain
I realize the rain can be very isolated as to where if falls around here. I heard thunder and seen far off lightening so has anyone in other areas seen any rain in the past 4 or 5 days? Joco?, Chapala?, Southside? None in Ajijic centro.

Re: Rain
No rain in Riberas since August 27th.
However, August 24th 0.5 inches, August 25th 1.2 inches, August 26th 0.8 inches and August 27th 1.4 inches.
The totals in Riberas for this rainy season are WAY above what is being shown on https://www.ajijicweather.com/index.htm and ajijic weather is showing WAY more than in Jocotepec where friends live.
Still, wherever it falls around the lake, it goes into the lake.

Yes, the total rainfall reported on the weather station so far this year is much lower than previous years but that could change quickly.

My point was that one weather station is NOT indicative of what's really happening in other areas on the north side of the lake within a 27 km spread.

Re: Rain
Thats for sure.
Not much in Ajijic last night but it probably poured somewhere close by.

Re: Rain
It was raining lightly when I went to bed last night. Barely even registered in the rain gauge. If I wanted to be generous, I'd say I got 0.05 inches. pffffft.

Re: Rain
So true but there is only one proper one that we have access to. Conagua has several weather stations that measure rainfall but I don't know where you can see their data.ferret wrote:My point was that one weather station is NOT indicative of what's really happening in other areas on the north side of the lake within a 27 km spread.

Looking at the temperatures, it appears ajijicweather.com is reporting from somewhere in Guadalajara. Weather Underground shows weather history from several stations located around Lake Chapala:

ajijicweather.com reports from Rancho Del Oro and sends its data to Weather Underground as station IJALISCO38.

In Chapala it rained during the night and again this morning. Both times a heavy downpour followed by a good steady rain; great for the gardens.

Re: Rain
In lower Riberas, got 0.1 inch during the night. At 7:13 this morning (been up since 5:30), it started to dump. By 8 am, it had stopped but I had accumulated another 1.0 inches. It's not that it's raining, it's the HARD rain and accumulating one inch in 3/4 of an hour. Everywhere is scrubbed clean.

Re: Rain
GDL has had a lot of rain over the last week to 10 days, flooding in a lot of areas.

Re: Rain
They should build a giant reservoir in that canyon to the north of them and stop pulling water from lake chapala. That would go a long way to help stabilize the lake level. They can then build gates at the rio Santiago to control the level.

Now THAT almost sounded like a post from MC.
P.S. Not that you're wrong. I don't know this stuff. Just thought it funny.

They started that very project some years ago at the confluence of the Rio Santiago and the Rio Verde just a little down stream from GDL, call the Arcendio Dam project. Was stopped by the courts as opponents were successful in their legal battle to scuttle the project.
How many cubic kilometers of precious water was lost to the ocean, never to be utilized was the crime of the century for this part of Mexico.

Re: Rain
Who were the opponents, and why did they oppose it? Would it have submerged a town or two? Bob is talking about north of GDL, seems like a better location to me.

Re: Rain
They could also generate some hydroelectric power from the dam.

North of GDL? yes it was..….The dam project was north and a little west of GDL, where the Rio Verde joins the Rio Santiago. The Rio Santiago begins at Lake Chapala southeast of GDL and flows around the north side of the city and then northwest to Nayarit.
The opponents were land owners, some environmentalists, politicians who thought it was too costly, etc. No towns were involved that I can remember of. That barranca could have held a hell of a lot of water.

Re: Rain
They may still do it one of these days. It's a no brainer.
