What’s the reason for posting his real name?

Re: Computer person
Ah. Because I think it only fair to out morons. You probably disagree, or you wouldn't have asked. My prerogative, as a definite swipe against a very distasteful person. You'll notice I also pointed out the name he uses on TOB. Just in case anyone missed it.
This guy has attacked me personally, online in public, for years. Surely releasing his name is not only my right against my accuser, but a good thing for those who might have to deal with him.
I already disseminate my own name. Mike Riley. Been doing it since I started on these Boards. What I do, what I say, is up front. No hiding.

Absolutely nothing to do with it. But keep rationalizing. I don't care. That makes two on my ignore list in one day. Me so happy.

Re: Computer person
Did he even air his dissatisfaction privately at the time of the job?

I, for one, appreciate anyone who outs morons, idiots, narcissists, the perpetually disturbed... low integrity types. I am constantly amazed at what appears to be a poverty of life-long learning, 60-70 years worth of repeating core emotional issues. Give me a heads up please!

No, he did not. He was perfectly okay with what I was able to do for him. It's a whole long story that I can PM you sometime, but not going into it here. I have put him on FOE, but I expect to see his name appear in rebuttal anyway.CanuckBob wrote:Did he even air his dissatisfaction privately at the time of the job?

Pedro used to do that, didn’t he? Who gets to decide who is a moron? I just think it’s bad form and unnecessary. My opinion.

Cypress, I'm with you. I wouldn't let "Computer Guy" near my computers with a 10' pole. I have read too many of his posts on TOB that are questionable advise at best. I have also known too many people whose computers he messed up. YRMV
Just a suggestion on the genealogy. PAF was discontinued in 2013. Make sure you have all your genealogy files backed up locally and in the Cloud. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, but if you want to change genealogy programs, look at the free versions of RootsMagic and Legacy. See which interface and features you prefer. Both are very powerful programs and the paid versions are under $30 USD.

Re: Computer person
I have known who the ComputerGuy was for years. And I know many who have used him. I think he does a great job.. By the way, no one is perfect, but I have found that Mike knows his stuff, when it comes to Microsoft, and I would highly recommend him to my friends who are Microsoft users.
I have no idea if he also works on Apple products.

I have also used the ComputerGuy named Mike Riley, since 2011. I have always been more than happy with any and all computer work that he has done for me. He even taught my hubby how to use the iPad and that should have come with hazard pay ;). I find him knowledgeable, thoughtful, punctual and very reasonably priced.

Go back and read his comments when Cyprus pointed out his mistakes. I found them to be petty, vicious and vindictive. This is not someone I would want to know my computer passwords.

Anyone who leaves passwords on their computer is not very computer savvy about security. That is never a good thing to do.

I'm grateful to CG/Mike for his generous time and energy dispensing free computer advice for so many years on both boards. He also worked on my old PC when I was still using it and kept it afloat for way past its prime.

Re: Computer person
Me too. I would be pissed if someone called me out on a public forum when they hadn't at least tried to resolve the issue privately.

Mike has just rebuilt a laptop I destroyed with a spilled drink. He diagnosed exactly the parts that required replacing and was quick with repairs.
I plan on calling him when my ilox is finally installed.

I tried to resolve it privately but Mike thought he knew it all and would not listen to the facts. so I had to pay for his mistakes.

Good to hear some common sense. PAF support was discontinued but the PAF program is still available in at least 3 places which Mike could not find but I found them. I have looked at all (most?) of the genealogy programs but so far they are inferior to PAF. I have backups but finding the PAF program is complicated..
