Message from Shaw satellite TV
On my TV I just received a message saying " your Shaw satellite dish needs an up grade......" What? Have others received this message and what is it about?

It's probably about your LNB.

A second message in a different place "Dish up grade needed for 3rd satellite access" I have never heard of a dish up grade.

Thanks CanuckBob. I am always suspicious of these messages-wondering if they are just trying to find out where you are. They want you to phone them. I wonder how you upgrade-online or physically up on the roof?

I got the same message on a station I watched on Friday but am unable to see today. Undoubtedly I need an equipment upgrade as I got my receiver in 2011 and have no upgrades of any kind on anything.

You need to do a physical upgrade of your LNB. It is the piece on the arm that poihts at the dish. Call Ajijic Satellites.

They are saying that you need an up grade for your DISH not your RECEIVER. Quite different.

Okay CanuckBob I get it now. You have to get a technician in to fiddle with your dish. I have never heard of such before. I will call Merryman
first and then Shaw.
first and then Shaw.

I know I did not word it correctly but as my receiver is a 550 it won't be functional that much longer either.

Don't do it. Even if you did, the third satellite's coverage does not extend this far south, so you would not get anything more.
The core channels remain on the first two satellites, which are still working for us down here.

Re: Message from Shaw satellite TV
Remember that you need a satellite receiver that is numbered 600 or higher to pick up Mpeg-4 which is the higher compression rate they are now using. I am up north and I just took off the old LNB from the old Star Choice satellite dish and replaced it with the new (3 satellite) LNB. And things kind of sort of work. I am not getting as strong a signal as I did before and am not even getting CNN on channel 95 any more. Oh I have a 800 series receiver which should work very well. I shall try tuning it in better.
Thanks Bob for your posts on Shaw. I didn't know that one might need a new satellite dish, I just thought I had to just replace the LNB.
Time will tell what I need.
