Gated community security guards colluding with crooks
Interesting article...…. http://semanariolaguna.com/39740/?fbclid=IwAR1c8vvsCxQy9rgzfvnXg1hVcXxMTDws9d4rPjXPhGD0BeNHc_lS6vWjM-U
And the translation:
Security of subdivisions obstructs work of the Chapala police
According to the Chapala commander, private security guards are in collusion with the robberies carried out in the private subdivisions
Machine translation.
Manuel Jacobo (Chapala, Jal). - The friction between elements of public and private security, because the latter do not allow entry to the subdivisions, are beginning to affect security and increasing rates of robbery to houses in the municipality, revealed the commander of Chapala, Amador Baena Finch.
However, the intention to combat crime in the subdivisions is present, but when the police want to check, the doormen in the entrances prevent them from going, in some cases they are only allowed to enter with a visitors card.
"The security guards of the private companies, they did not let them in, then we are already colluding ... And the administrators are supposed to have come, here is the report that the policeman did by hand, which was where they did not even let him in, "snapped Amador Baena Pinzón.
And according to the interviewee, the private guards and the workers in at least 35 private preserves of the
municipality are colluded with thefts that almost always take place during the day because the tenants go shopping or their activities.
The interviewee estimated that, in his long career in Public Security, 50 percent of the robberies involve private security guards and workers. "Those who collude include those who come to work as bricklayers, electricians, because they are the only ones who know which houses are unoccupied and who are inside."
The interviewee reported that he has met since the fourth week of October with the administrators, where he "is emphasizing that they should buy a radio from them, to have direct communication with us."
Likewise, it was seen as an option to place a radio base in the Commissariat to have direct communication between both parties, so when they see a strange person or a suspicious vehicle, notice is given.
He ended by exemplifying what they did in the Vista del Lago subdivision, where they bought their own patrol and made a surveillance route around the preserve, which helped eliminate the crime, since a doorman is not enough to take care of 300 houses.

Not much of a surprise though.
There is another post on that FB crime page that is interesting too. Apparently it was caught on video by a fracc homeowner - white, unmarked, Amazon delivery van with driver and passenger delivered a package then passenger got out of the van and was observed by video stealing the leaf blower belonging to the fracc, and left out by the gardener, and putting it in the van then van left the scene. Last I read, they are reporting and authorities are informed.

Would have been interesting if the guards actually watched people after they enter and then not let them leave and detained them.

Armed Amazon delivery guys? If guards watch people then cops can be waiting outside. If guards are lazy or sleeping, etc then people know they can literally get away with murder.

Re: Gated community security guards colluding with crooks
No, not armed Amazon delivery. I'm referring to unarmed (probably poorly paid, unmotivated, lazy, possibly corrupted, sleeping) fracc "security" guards confronting probably armed bad guys/robbers. Would you?
Alerting the police to respond and check out the suspicious car. . . well, that's another matter. I couldn't even get them to answer the phone the 4 times I called them for assistance. YMMV
I'm one of those that thinks that fracc "security" guards provide a false sense of security.

Yes it's just PR for the fracc...and the homeowners pay the crooks to do it!

Re: Gated community security guards colluding with crooks
I’m more worried about the crooked cops who come in and clean out a place after a death or crime. I hear of that a lot more than crooked gated community guards and that’s what he ought to concentrate on.
My only experience in a gated place was a few months in El Parque when I first moved here and the guards there were wonderful. I would see them patrolling late at night. Friendly and professional. I have never heard of problems there, if there have been. The commander would be well advised to clean up his own back yard IMO.

Yes! Agree CB, El Parque security is impressive and true security.
So, what is the difference? Why is EP security impressive but Racket Club not? La Floresta not? Hiring practices by the fraccs? Background checks? Pay rates? What makes one fracc secure and others not?
PS: however, a few EP houses were robbed recently by thieves coming over the back walls. According to the FB hysteria page.

I’m not on that Facebook page. I quit when they let Lisa Jorgensen in though maybe she’s no longer there. Didn’t know that happened at El Parque but that place has to have the lowest crime rate around. I don’t know how they do it but those guys were great when I was there. Of course, the way EP is laid out may help keep it more secure. La Floresta is wide open. I hear Mirasol is now having problems since they don’t have guards anymore.

There are fraccs and condominio. Condominio can legally control all access as they own the roads and infrastructure. Fraccs don't own the roads and cannot control entry to the same degree. El Parque is a condo. La Floresta and many others are fraccs. There is a difference.

Mirosol did not have guards when I moved down here 10 years ago.

Huh. Never saw guards there. Must be more “off” than “on.”

Definitely more off than on. I know this because one came out of the guard kiosk one time to ask me where I was going! Surprised the hell outta me! Long time ago, never seen one since.

Re: Gated community security guards colluding with crooks
Friends were on the board. When David Ladd was alive and a board member there used to be guards a lot because every time I visited which was frequently I had to give the name of the house I was going to but with difficulties with board members and the usual infighting it seemed the first thing to be cut was the guard. Now that the fracc is functionally nonexistent there are no guards at all. And I have heard there have been a lot of break-ins.
