Medical Needs for Our Community
I need input from you guys. . .what are we lacking, here at the lake, in terms of medical services? We know that high quality advanced emergency medicine is needed, but that is not on the table at this time.
What would you like to see here that you have had to go to Guadalajara for? Physical Therapy? Inhalation/Respiratory Therapy? Senior Day Care? Disabled Care? Cardiac Rehab? Weight Loss/Nutrition Care, Medical Tourism Cardiac (angiogram/stents/follow-up) Care?
A doctor friend and I were having this discussion yesterday. The facilities are here, a high quality medical staff can be provided, what do you think is most needed?
Thanks for any and all input!

That's a good suggestion, Bob, thanks!
I also received a PM with a vote for Pulmonary Rehab. That was the most favorable suggestion by the doctors yesterday!

what i do know is that there are more doctors here lately than the population can support. and the demographics do not support major stough that can be found in a city of over 6 million pop.
all these doctors obviously do not have the skills of a good marketer like mcdonalds who research really really well before they open a store. pie in the sky i say. time for a reality check.

So, I take it you have nothing constructive to contribute.

i just did contribute-it's called reality.. the only facilities i can think of ,are the overabundance of empty new buildings with nothing in them. please tell us what facilities you speak of that contain big city stough. can you clarify of what you speak "the facilities are here" por favor.

rudimentry[sic] pr can be accomplished without a special facility, fortunately. just the right personnel. some patients can be treated in their homes,so of course your doctor "friends" like it.

I agree, imaging, ie: CT scans, MRI's, mammograms, Bone density with quality digital equipment.

Re: Medical Needs for Our Community
do your doctor friends know a benevolent multi-millionaire that will supply all these things here even though they will lose tons of money?
can you tell us, since you are in the know, what the patient demographics are in the immediate area of usage so that the rest of us can wrap ourselves around some facts and not suggest things that cannot be?

Re: Medical Needs for Our Community
according to the guadalajara reporters story of a news conference on wed. in the presidente's office, if that is what you speak of, there is no facility at present. some of us that have been here for a while are still wondering where the disneyesque theme park is,and, and, and. what is considered a full service hospital,in any event, by your people and their people and let's do lunch.

Re: Medical Needs for Our Community
There is nothing in Trailrunner's OP mentioning or even alluding to a full-service hospital. Her offered examples: "Physical Therapy? Inhalation/Respiratory Therapy? Senior Day Care? Disabled Care? Cardiac Rehab? Weight Loss/Nutrition Care, Medical Tourism Cardiac (angiogram/stents/follow-up) Care? These are not at all out of the realm of possibility for an area like lakeside.

Re: Medical Needs for Our Community
There's a lot to be said for a "real" hospital in this area. Among other things: when you're sick, it would be a good thing to be nearer your own home and friends so you could have visitors who didn't have to brave the terrors of a trip through Guadalajara traffic.
A 40-some bed hospital for this area would probably be about the right size to take care of the local demographic, especially with so many of them in an age group prone to needing "ordinary" hospital care.

Gringal, isn't there a proposal for a small, full-service hospital in Riberas or thereabouts? Seems I read something about that recently.

Re: Medical Needs for Our Community
the spokes person for the "proposed hospital", is doctor jorge gonzales the orthopedic surgeon who comes every friday to maskaras clinic and is affiliated with hosp. del carmen in guadalajara and is an excellent orthopedic surgeon.
the op mentioned that "the facilities are here" which is not the case, so ms. lady this does not belong in the octagon, since no personal axes are being groung as you put it.. we shall see if this new 42 bed hospital in riberas will fly,no? in any event, hopefully, the seemingly professional persons directly involved will do their due diligence. from the looks of the architectural rendering they plan on expanding that skeleton beside dr. pinto's office. as to gringal's demographic. out of a population of roughly 80,000 between jocotepec and poncitlan to the east, how many fall into the demographic that you are alluding too?

Re: Medical Needs for Our Community
Again, the OP refers to offering services such as Physical Therapy, Inhalation/Respiratory Therapy, Senior Day Care, and Disabled Care. What sort of facilities do you suppose these require?

Re: Medical Needs for Our Community
In spite of Pedro's wandering off into another area.......the question was pertinent, so I'll answer it:
the "demographic" I referred to includes but is not limited to, a large number of retired people who would be ready to use a local hospital. (I doubt they'd be needing a maternity ward.)
I'm sure there are a number of the younger people living here who would appreciate a private hospital closer to home, too.

Re: Medical Needs for Our Community
Thanks everyone, for your constructive responses, and for the PMs. The hands-down most requested service so far has been 'Pulmonary Rehab'.
I will also post the question on FB in an effort to get as much response as possible.
Please keep the suggestions coming in!

Re: Medical Needs for Our Community
Of the 80,000 population north lakeside mentioned, a great many (probably a majority) would be better served by more advanced IMSS or Seguro Popular facilities. I'm sure those institutions have done studies of the demographics and also have funding problems.

Re: Medical Needs for Our Community
It is recognized and acknowledged by the doctors I had this discussion with that a full fledged Emergency Room and/or a small high level hospital is needed - BUT, as said, that is not on the table at this time.
The desire is to fill a service need such as those mentioned in the OP.

A good lab similar to Tolsa with all the machines that do various forms of imaging. Hospice care.
