Opportunity knocks
After exploring the south side today looking at property to buy or rent we decided to stop in San Luis Soyatlan and have lunch with friends at a charming restaurant named Los Crotos. It's located just steps north of the plaza on the lake side of the carretera. Turns out the place is also a B&B with 4 very adequate bedrooms w/insuite bathrooms on the second floor with balcony doors that open on to a patio with view of the lake. And it turns out the place (the whole place) is for rent for $1,200 U.S a month, lock, stock and barrel!
Here's a link to their web site and please trust me, the photos do nothing to show the elegance and charm of the place. http://loscrotos.com/en/ (be sure to click on the El Patio link at the top of the page for additional pics. and info.) Also, there is a nice sized garage, and living quarters we didn't see.
Arturo, the owner, was kind enough to give us a tour and mention that he wanted to take a year or two or more off to relax and market the book he had just written. Interesting fellow Arturo, he was a dentist, in the motion picture buz., amateur architect (he designed and built the place) and writer. He speaks English and delights in telling stories about the history and people of San Luis. Oh, the food was well prepared and modestly priced with generous portion sizes and drinks.

Yes, one of my favorite places. It's about 20 minutes from San Juan Cosala (at a good clip) and I often go with groups for lunch. 80 pesos gets you soup, salad, and entree of fish chicken or meat beautifully prepared and an agua fresca. Did you know within a block there is a tiny clothing factory in a house - no sign. They make clothing of manta, some machine embroidered, some hand done, all at really good prices.
So will you be running the restaurant next time I go over there?

Well if you are making the drinks Bob, then I will probably need to stay in one of the rooms - you know don't drink and drive.
By the way the view off the back patio between the two rooms upstairs in the back is a beautiful north view of the lake.

Oh no, not me. We're looking for a place to get away from it all! I want to be the guy sitting on the drinkin' side of the bar.

I went with a group with Simpsca last week and we had a great time. It actually was a 5 course meal for $80p. Most of the ladies bought clothing from the factory.
Fantastic day had by all!!!
Might be going back again, very soon.

I fell in love with the malecon there. Gorgeous. It would be interesting to be there during some kind of holiday and see just how noisy it gets.
