Re: Mexico's surging narco violence is intensifying
If "The Communist" (as my wife and her family call him) gets elected, it's going to change everything for us expats. And not for the better. As far as seeing federales on the road that's not a new thing. All you have to do is drive around a little and you'll see masked state, municipal, federal and military forces on patrol. CanuckBob, I know the reason Canada has a low rate of homicide per capita. I trained with the RCMP in Regina, with TDY in Vancouver/Surrey and in Alberta, and nearly one out of 100 Canadian citizens has professional ties to police investigative networks. Mexico, AND the USA, could take examples from Canada on how to combat narcotrafficking. Except... The USA and ESPECIALLY Mexico are severely corrupt, and they'll never change. So, crash they will.

Funny how feeble people answer my comments on THIS thread on a completely different thread, hoping I won't find it. That's OK. Showing your brilliance and maturity again...

How about answering the direct question of exactly HOW the election of AMLO would affect expats in a negative way if you can manage to reply in a civilized, insult-free manner?

AMLO may have some negative effect on foreign owned business, particularly those in the energy, mining and auto manufacturing sectors. He is unlikely to have zero direct effect on "Joe Blow" retiree living in Mexico.....IMO.

I suspect you're right. What "the people" who support him seem to be most concerned about is crime and corruption, and we'd all benefit if that were effectively addressed.

Correct. That video posted by smartalex in the politics section explains AMLO's platform quite clearly. Personally, I hope he gets in because the "same ole, same ole" isn't working here. The same attitudes up north is what got Trump the job. Big difference is AMLO is no Trump.......

Glad you appreciated the comments by John Ackerman, CB. Here's a more extensive interview with Ackerman on the subject of AMLO and the upcoming election.

Yes, thanks again Alex!
I think I remember John Ackerman from way back at the Zapatista uprising, maybe 1991. . .? I believe he was arrested, detained, and ultimately released. Must Google that.

For sure TR. I'm happy to have a front row seat for what could become an historic moment for Mexico........or not.

It is interesting that Carlo Slim partnered up with Obrador while mayor of Mexico City. I wonder if he is behind him now.........probably so

Re: Mexico's surging narco violence is intensifying
Probably not since ALMO says he may shut down Slim's massive CDMX airport project. Slim is also one of the oligarch family's that are in AMLO's crosshairs. AMLO's support comes from the bottom up, not the top down. Big business and the banks are terrified as AMLO vows to stop the corruption and monopolies. At least that is my take on things.......

Actually, I'm looking for a seat a little farther back in the audience now, other than front row. The attempted assassination in Chapala has established a new low.
