Re: Mexico's surging narco violence is intensifying
700 people murdered in Guanajuato state so far this year. 19 in the past 5 days alone here in quaint Dolores Hidalgo where I've lived since 2009. Military had all roads big and small blocked until sunrise, so no traffic in or out night before last after narcos murdered 5 people, then police engaged them, killing 3 of 4 of the narcos. Police have flooded the hospital here to guard the 4th who was injured in the firefight. I moved out of my 1st house I had in Mexico from 1989 to 2012, after the Plaza España shootout outside my house in Saltillo, Coahuila in July 2012, consolidating all my Mexico houses to just one house in a safe atmosphere. Now, Guanajuato state is #1 in murders, most dangerous state, in all of Mexico. Two neighbors and my suegro's former worker were among those killed over the past few months. There was a gunshot on my street last night and 3 people killed by my brother in law's house yesterday. What's going to have to happen to make Mexico safe again?

Yesterday, abt 4 PM, in Ocotlan, 10 were killed in a shootout with narcs. Six police and for others. Fortunately, we have not seen this problem here in Chapala.
I worry about the upcoming election.

Sorry to hear that RF. I had always considered GTO city to be one of the safer cities to visit.

Biggest election on all levels in around 100 years. There's a lot in play, a TON on the table. Fasten your seat belts and stay safe.

Exactly how I see it too. Anothing can happen. Coupled with the US - anything could happen there too. Buckle up kids.

Hahahaha sure they use their great skills as nobody will hire them then they loot the government then unemployment until they are thrown another bone. The WORST people to get involved with are attorneys who are involved with politics or government.

Re: Mexico's surging narco violence is intensifying
Getting close to where? The narcos have been killing each other in Guadalajara for many years. It was only a few years ago that 24 bodies were stuffed into a van and abandoned under the yellow arches near the RIU hotel. In May of 2012, 18 local people (no expats) right here around the lake were abducted and murdered in retaliation. Nothing new to see here......

Re: Mexico's surging narco violence is intensifying
Perhaps, but the lack of a large, lucrative drug market to fight over is probably the bigger reason.

I am curious, what is the drug/narco/related killing like in Canada. The United States is not the safest place in the world

Re: Mexico's surging narco violence is intensifying
Canada?.....who cares?.....they are a minor player in the producing, manufacturing, and distribution of the worldwide narcotics industry.
Singapore is probably the safest place in the world for this activity and it's dire results.

Re: Mexico's surging narco violence is intensifying
Well in 2016 Canada had a total of 611 homicides. A good portion of those would be domestic homicide.

BTW, on my way to Chapala today I passed 11 Federales trucks, many of which sported the big guns and masked men in the back, all in cavalcade and traveling westbound through Riberas.

Re: Mexico's surging narco violence is intensifying
If "The Communist" (as my wife and her family call him) gets elected, it's going to change everything for us expats. And not for the better. As far as seeing federales on the road that's not a new thing. All you have to do is drive around a little and you'll see masked state, municipal, federal and military forces on patrol. CanuckBob, I know the reason Canada has a low rate of homicide per capita. I trained with the RCMP in Regina, with TDY in Vancouver/Surrey and in Alberta, and nearly one out of 100 Canadian citizens has professional ties to police investigative networks. Mexico, AND the USA, could take examples from Canada on how to combat narcotrafficking. Except... The USA and ESPECIALLY Mexico are severely corrupt, and they'll never change. So, crash they will.
