San Antonio home invasions
Talked to woman @ Fest Febrero who went to market for 2 hours last wed & returned to break-in, all jewelry & electronics gone. She stated another neighbor had also had their home invaded recently as well. Street off La Paz..

A few weeks ago a friend who lives in Riberas was broken into around 11 on a Wednesday morning. When she talked to neighbors she discovered there had been three break ins on her street — all on a Wednesday morning.

Walking up Colon in Ajijic this morning I see three young guys trying to kick in the front door of the Las Telares Restaurant. When I got to the plaza I saw a cop outside the butcher store so I told him he might want to go check it out. He said he would but continued chatting with a friend. I looked back a couple of minutes later and he was still chatting away.

When you see criminals THAT ballsy, creating noise and attention, main street in a small town, a block from the "police" station you can be sure with 100% certainty that the police in that town are corrupt and impunity reigns.CanuckBob wrote:Walking up Colon in Ajijic this morning I see three young guys trying to kick in the front door of the Las Telares Restaurant. I'm assuming, CB, you talked to him in Spanish or he speaks English. . .did he understand what you said?

He spoke a little English and I spoke a little Spanish. He understood what I was saying. He may have eventually sauntered on down there. He just wasn't in a hurry......

Or not.
Remember he is useless unless he witnesses a crime in action. That's their MO, respond well after the fact.
You should go to the restaurant tomorrow and ask them if they got robbed. If they say yes, tell them the story.

Oh he would have witnessed it. They were still pounding away when I reached the plaza. There is the possibility it was one of the workers who forgot a key or something but they didn't look like it. I will go by and talk with them.

OK, since it is only 4 minutes from my place I just went over there and the head waiter told me the doors were open when they arrived today. He didn't say if anything was stolen. He laughed when I told him about the cop. Apparently the little corner store right across from the cop sub station near the plaza was robbed at 5:00pm a few days ago. The cops are working with someone......

When I first got to Ajijic in 2001 Bancomer had no money as they had been robbed that day and you know how far it is from the police station...The guys jumped in a pick up but were stopped at the end of the block as an old gringo was trying to park in front of the post office, that was there at the time The thieves jumped off and pushed the old man s car to the intersection so they could go ahead and run away.. The cops did not start going after them until the pick up had turned the corner... You could not have made that story up..

Re: San Antonio home invasions
And strangely enough every morning when I walk my dog through the plaza at about 8:15am there is about 6 cops and several police vehicles where the taxi's park yet this morning while break ins are taking place a block down there is only one cop at the butcher store. He was likely off duty as he had bags of meat he just purchased. Obviously he didn't get the memo to stay away from the plaza this morning.......
Seems like we need to bring in the state police once again.

Do the cops get paid up front or after the "job" is done? You know how paying "workers" up front goes in this, or any, country.
But I guess this is different.....being paid...."not to work".

Three years later when I got here, I heard this story laughingly repeated many times only the punchline was different. I heard the cops never went after the thieves because they didn't have bullets for their guns. They said the muni gave them the guns but they had to buy the bullets and they couldn't afford to.

Re: San Antonio home invasions
I was there right after it happened and the cops did make an attempts to a chase , but after the guys in the pick up had pushed the car out of the way and the pick up had turned the corner.. when everything was pretty safe. If they did not have any bullets you cannot really blame them.

No, you can't. And look how it is now.
Regardless of whether or not they had/have bullets or whatever the reason is they don't respond to reports or requests for response, to depend on them to really act like cops is a fantasy. Doncha think?
I'm actually happy there is no cop shop in SA.

Anyone who's lived here more than a few years and still thinks they're living in paradise is in serious need of some therapy.

It's probably still paradise for those that stay away from these forums and Facebook pages. Ignorance is bliss and without reading all the crap posted in these forums I would be blissfully unaware too.......

Re: San Antonio home invasions
The police here is pretty useless so it is best no relying on them at all.
Here in Chiapas a friend of mine was assaulted in a cab on the way to our house. He is no pussy cat defended himself and beat up the the guy who assaulted him and told off the cab driver who did nothing or was an accomplice. He arrived at our house with a black eye.. I asked him if he wanted me to call the police and he told me what for? "I beat up the guy and thats it"
That is pretty much how the locals look at the police..no point getting them involved in anything , no point being on their radar..

Donald Trump would have rushed in, down the street, or whatever.....guns or no guns, bullets or no bullets.
How to really act like cops seems to be a multinational problem.

Yesterday a Dr., up in Texas, shot and killed a young couple helping his aged mother, so I guess "paradise" exists just about everywhere.
Just move.....paradise will follow you.

Well we have been living in Mexico for 6 years and visiting for 30 years and nothing nefarious has happened yet (touch wood). The incident the other day was the first criminal thing I ever witnessed here.
Come to think of it nothing nefarious ever happened to us NOB either....
