exterior chair lift for 25 stairs

My wife Barbi aka Barbicheesecake, has lost the ability to walk up the stairs to our home. We have been in this house for 8 years, and would really not have to move. She is currently in a rehab nursing home and do not know if she will be well enough to walk all of the steps. Does anyone know of a company or an individual who could install a lift. She may recover well enough to go halfway up. her progress is going getting better each day, so in a month or so this may not be needed, but and a big but, if she can not we will have to move. So sorry to hear about Barbi.  This is something so many of us are either facing or may face in the near future, so if anyone can provide the needed information, more than one person on here will appreciate it.

Question:  would your home have room to have an inside elevator? if not, there's another option. A friend of mine back in the states needed "something" and a contractor installed a lift chair within the existing stairway.  She said it worked well.

There is a house on the mountain side of the Caretera as you enter Chapala, just before the mural. It was repaired in the last couple of years. I'd suggest stopping there and see who did the work.

This is for the lift that slinks along inside your own stairs. Many options. And, the seat and foot rest easily fold up out of the way. Most of these places also sell second hand versions.

The above company's head office is in Mexico City but I would bet my bottom dollar that they also have an office in Guadalajara complete with installers.
If it was me, I would choose the model that runs on the 2 batteries... it would be a bitch to be stuck on this thing in a power failure.

the seat going up and down the wall would be a good option if the shape and size of the stairs allow it. Lifts are expensive and it would be cheaper to move..The SS in France provide those chairs for free so I do not know their price but of the stairs can accomodate a chair it is the way to go.
The contractor who was doing work on my house was installing a lift for some of his client and was just talking to me about them.. They are expensive and require use and maintenance

have to disagree about being cheaper, 8 years and NEVER a rent raise, when I tell people what we pay for a fully furnished 2 bdrm 2 and 1 half baths, fully furnished they are amazed. We have the BEST landlord ever

I noticed your post says "exterior" so if it is going outside be sure to get one that can handle the elements.

Both interior and exterior types are shown in the links that I provided. The thing that I like most about the "chair" type is that it folds up out of the way when not needed and it doesn't become part of the permanent structure of the house. When you move, it can easily move with you or be sold. Even if the "stair" shape changes when moving to a new house, all that is required is a change in the rail.
I have lived in one level houses for the last twenty years... keeping murphy's law at bay. ;)

thanks for all the great info, we did find a company that provides for exterior use, and is run on batteries, so do not need to worry about CFE, just waiting to get a price quote

How does one charge the batteries?????

I have been researching this for the past month - did not think to post a question on Inside Lakeside. Kudos to you - brilliant!!!. Acorn in the US and Canada make a lift - inside and no curve - $999 US. I need something with a curve and will it be installed outside. I have been quoted $7,000 - $12,000 US. Way too expensive. Could install an elevator for that (almost).

You mentioned have or are expecting a quote(s). I would be very interested in who you contacted for quotes and your suggestions.

Regarding question as to charging batteries. The lift is wired conventionally. In the event of a power outage, the batteries will take over.

GREAT DAY Barbi came home today after 47 days in rehab, she was able to walk up the stairs without a cane, but we are still getting the lift, just in case. Cost will be around 7500 us dollars. Of course last week was vacation for the company, so do not expect to have till May.

I'm happy for you gobluejohn and very happy for Barbi! 47 days is a loooong time. Welcome home Barbi!
