Crime and security in Chapala Haciendas
We were told by a couple who had just sold their house in Haciendas that their neighbour had multiple break ins and on one occasion he was pistol whipped. This couple also had a few break ins. Their homes backed onto over grown farmland. They didn't tell us when this happened. Any up to date information would be appreciated.

They have a security guy that keeps an eye on strange vehicles or people in the fracc. and escorts them out if they don't have a good reason to be there. Or calls the Chapala police. He patrols all day and will come if someone calls him about suspicious persons at night. He lives in the fracc. You can also call the fracc office and ask about recent break-ins.

Please understand that unless you live inside a walled, gated with a security guard community, people can get into nearly everywhere. Even the walled gated communities sometimes have problems but not so often.
We lived in the Haciendas for several years and it is a very peaceful community. I hadn't heard about any recent problems.
RENT FIRST!!!! And be responsible for your own security.

Muskydriver, are you living there now? If you are, please join the facebook Neighborhood Watch group for the area called, “Vecinos Alertas Chapala Haciendas Neighborhood Watch”. You must be living there or an owner there to join and they’ll be happy to answer any questions or concerns you have.

Your takeaway should be - stay away from the areas backing into hills and forests. There are people living rough in those places, lot of people from Central America and people on the run.

Not necessarily. If someone is willing to but a high wall around their place and have 2-4 Rottweilers, they probably won’t have any problems.

But at the end of the day, given a choice, why choose a place that requires a high wall and 2 - 4 Rottweiler's........???

Thanks for all the input on my question. We have decided not to buy the house we were considering in Haciendas.
