Jalisco.- Two criminals arrested after they attacked with high-powered firearms three Federal Police officers stationed in Lagos de Moreno who stopped them for investigation have been arraigned. The events happened last week.
The arrested subjects were identified as Geovany Reyes, 31, a native of Honduras and Óscar Leopoldo Espinoza Rocha, 26, with an address on 20 de Mayo Street in Minas de Barrotera, Coahuila.
According to the statements by both subjects, the Honduran had been working for the criminal organization for five months and was recruited in Ciudad Mier, Tamaulipas, where he did various "jobs" for the Zetas.
Later he, along with Óscar Leopoldo, was transported to the city of San Luis Potosí and from there they went to Zacatecas and finally to Villa Hidalgo, Jalisco, where they were kept in a nearly abandoned ranch. There they were interviewed by their bosses.
They were given back pay for the weeks they had worked, the sum of 12,000 pesos. They were to work there as hired killers. Earlier they had earned 3,000 pesos every two weeks as "lookouts".
According to the accused they were paid 8,000 pesos in Tamaulipas as killers, but in the states of Zacatecas and San Luis Potosí the pay increases to 12,000 pesos.
They were informed that they would perform a number of jobs in the municipality of Chapala in order to take the place over. For transportation they stole a red Kenworth truck without plates. Five individuals armed with 7.62 mm AK-47 rifles with six magazines would ride in it. Ahead of them would travel another truck, this one white, with eight associates, all headed to the municipality of Chapala.
According to the statements by the prisoners, last Wednesday as they passed the San Juanico crossroads in San Juan de los Lagos the driver told them, "Here comes a 'panda'", meaning the Federal Police.
The gunmen pulled over and stopped while the driver asked their bosses for instructions. They told them to give the federal officers 3,000 pesos. The driver got out with another colleague.
A federal policeman stuck his head in the passenger side door and opened the curtain to the sleeper, seeing three other subjects and the shoulder weapons on the floor of the truck. The officer drew his pistol but one of the arrested subjects fired his rifle first, wounding the officer in the right arm.
The other "sicarios" got out and began firing and the federals fought off the attack. After the exchange of gunfire the criminals got back in the truck tractor and fled towards San Juan, where they were told by telephone to stop some faster vehicle to escape in.
The gangsters threatened the occupants of a gold-colored Venture pickup with Jalisco plates and fled, later abandoning that vehicle near the community of El Desperdicio.
One of the suspects was arrested en route to San José de los Reynosos, the other near the community of El Desperdicio.
Óscar Leopoldo had a groin injury that he suffered falling out of the truck tractor while preparing to get into the Venture.
He told where to find the weapons, and officers seized four 7.62 mm firearms and six magazines.
The two suspects mentioned being part of a Zeta cell. Both are awaiting criminal prosecution.

Huh? What has any of this got to do with last week in Jocotepec? From the article it appears that these doofuses never even made it here.
One of the alleged perps failed to properly negotiate an exit from a truck. Gawd, sounds like really scary dude.
There was NO mention of Jocotepec, a passing reference to Chapala, however no evidence that they were ever here. Or that they even got close to here.

The narco banners DID happen, here, I found your news article that I read Monday after a friend told me it happened,
and your not getting pictures. They aren't even saying where they were, although I've been told. Doesn't really matter because they take them down right away.

More "narcomantas" show up in Jalisco
July 11, 2011 • 16:04 Staff
More narcomantas signed by the Zetas organization appeared this morning in Jalisco.
Police sources state that the finds were reported in the municipalities of Chapala and Jocotepec.
They did not, however, specify the exact places these narco-messages were placed.
As in the case of the narcomantas that showed up yesterday, the Zetas denied responsibility for the attack Friday in the Sabino Gordo bar in Monterrey, where an armed hit squad left a total of twenty people dead and five injured.
The discovery of these sheets in the lakeside municipalities is in addition to those in other Mexican states with a similar message.
This morning another narcomanta even appeared outside the aforementioned bar, with the Zetas again denying responsibility for the attack and blaming members of the Gulf Cartel.
