Severence Pay for Maid Empty Severence Pay for Maid

I'm asking for a friend who had a housekeeper come for 3 weeks, 4 hours a week. She worked a total of 12 hours and didn't work out so my friend is not having her come back. Does she owe her any severance pay for such a short period of time?

No......for anything less than 30 days is not mandatory.

How about for a person that subs for the regular cleaning lady who has been off having a baby? She sent her aunt to fill in for her for about 2 mos...the original gal is coming back next week. Do I pay a finiquito to the aunt?

I believe that the limit on having to pay severance is 3 months of work. You should check with Spencer McMullen to be sure that it hasn't changed. That is why it should be specified that there will be a trial period of 3 months when hiring a new employee. Always get them to sign and date and number of hours worked for any money received. That's your proof.

No finiquito for the aunt because she worked for you for a specific length of time--until your regular housekeeper came back from maternity leave.
