The building on the Ajijic pier
The infamous building on the Ajijic Malecon pier started, stopped, and remained in ???? since just recently. As of this morning, there were men standing around what appeared to be the open main door, and on the cement surround facing the park there is a large and skilled, colorful mural. There are painted words on the path leading out to the building.
Anyone know what's going on?

Men standing around sounds like street repair or sewer work.

They wouldn't say what was going on?
Maybe they weren't supposed to be there.......again.

Re: The building on the Ajijic pier
The mural on the lower wall has been there for a while (I think a few weeks). They redid some of the murals down at the skate park too. I didn't see anything painted on the walkway however there are letters dangling from the archway that say "Love and Thanks" and there are some palm fronds tied to the arch too. Looks like a religious thing. There was a couple of ratty looking guys out front (*maybe squatters??) but nobody inside it when I was down there 20 minutes ago.

So.....no clues yet. I was there around 9:30. Door to place was open; guys weren't particularly ratty looking.

Call the police if they are violating the work stoppage mandate.

Tell you what: I'll let somebody do that who has a lot better evidence and a lot more thirst for law and order than I.

Re: The building on the Ajijic pier
Wouldn't it be nice if we actually had a lovely pier in Ajijic instead of an eyesore?

They should have let the guy finish his plan before they refused the license. He was fixing the walkway up quite nicely...........now of course it all remains only partially finished.

This morning I noticed they have started painting it. There wasn't anyone there at 8:00am but the front left hand side has been painted pale yellow. Was this painted before and I never noticed it?

Re: The building on the Ajijic pier
Maybe they are just dolling it up for the Pueblo Magico inspectors who are here to inspect next March.

Now THAT would be a delicious irony, eh?

Re: The building on the Ajijic pier
Update this morning around 9:30 (just before the deluge): Most of the west side of the building has now been painted a light yellow. Guy working at it on ladder.
Pueblo Magico!!!

Yeah. Just slap some yellow paint on that there eyesore and she'll be perfect, just like magico! Talk about lipstick on a pig.

Ain't that the truth! It's never been a positive addition to the scenery, but when it was open, it at least gave some happy times to the patrons. A closed up eyesore has no excuse for existence.

Re: The building on the Ajijic pier
Agree, Gringal! And YELLOW? Couldn't they have at least tried for sea blue with some artistic murals??? But what do we do? Join arms and sing "we shall overcome this blight some day"? OR "Don't it always seem to go...That you don't know what you've got til its gone...They paved paradise...And put up a parking lot…" Well, the parking lot was there already, but still....

Re: The building on the Ajijic pier
Now, now....I think that structure has been there longer than most of us have been here. Hasn't it been there for 30 years or so?

Re: The building on the Ajijic pier
I had no problem with the structure until it was allowed to deteriorate. Then the partial "remodel" just finished it off. It needs more than some paint slapped on it now.

Re: The building on the Ajijic pier
Bob, I think a closer estimate for that "building" would be 25 years, perhaps a year or two less. IMHO (and that of many, many others at the time) it should never have been allowed. It has certainly never looked anything other than an eyesore!

Maybe the powers that be are afraid that if they remove the building, idiots will treat it like a dragstrip, driving down the street, up onto the pier, and right into the lake! Like the saying goes...."Here, hold my beer and watch this!"

Re: The building on the Ajijic pier
It looks like it will be finished getting it's paint job today. It is actually more tan than yellow. It looks better than it did IMO.

Re: The building on the Ajijic pier
And now that it is solid masonry, and painted, much more rooted than the old wood building that fell into disrepair, maybe... what...maybe they'll open a bloody Chilis or some equally abominable chain. The current building does not not not fit in with our village. Can't imagine any pueblo mágico evaluator, saying oh this is so charming and historical. Sad.

Re: The building on the Ajijic pier
It was certainly there in 1995. Used to have a sign that read, Sorry - we're open!
