Chapala Monday Tianguis
I went yesterday, hadn't been in a couple of years, and was instantly reminded why I love this country and why I moved here. So much fun. I spent a whopping 100 pesos and got so much beautiful fresh food I could hardly carry my bags to the car. Only saw one other paleface the whole time I was there (refreshing) and he was carrying the bags of his Mexican partner.
Viva Mexico.

We go there as well, so you should see at least three faces. When we go we usually do see a few expats shopping.
We agree with you about the abundance and great prices for us. It was a real joy for me after paying Texas prices.

Re: Chapala Monday Tianguis
Things must have changed there. The last time I was at the Chapala tiangus (maybe three years ago) I noted a whole bunch of cholos hanging around (hang onto your purse and wallet) and the vendors didn't seem welcoming to the gringos. Never went back......

That's too bad CB, I've never had that experience there. Try it again.

Re: Chapala Monday Tianguis
I have always found the Chapala tianguis much more interesting than the Ajijijc one. More variety of stuff for sale. Besides the regular vegs and fruits etc, clothes and general kitchen gadgets, flowers at great prices, etc. Most of the stands have the vegs etc clearly marked so you do not feel you are getting ripped off for being a Gringo. More problem is I don't always want to by 3/4kilos of stuff. I guess when you are in close proximity with people, pushing and shoving caution should be exercised where you put your wallet

Good God, I hope MC doesn't read this thread or will be off on a new and different rant about all the benefits that Chapala (town) gets and how abused poor little Ajijic is......
Buy in Chapala....discard in Ajijic.......
