Is "Canje" still the way to go?
I'm moving Lakeside next month, and though I got my MX Visa sticker (visa temporal) in my passport the other day was told I still need to fill out a 'tourist visa' to enter MX. One of the books I read about moving Lakeside recommended writing "Canje" on the tourist visa form. Is that still valid and/or recommended?
I ask because I showed a pic of my visa sticker to a friend who lives Lakeside and she said it was nothing like what she got when she moved there almost 4 years ago. I'm wondering if the system has changed....
As always, gracias...

You will fill out an FMM (a multiple purpose form for INM) when you enter. DO NOT check tourism or visitor, or anything of that nature. Check OTHER and write CANJE on the top of each section of the form, just to be sure.
You will get 30 days; the time within which you must report to INM with proof of address, etc., and start the tramite to change (canje) your temporary approval into an actual visa, which may take as much as two months; so be patient and available, as you will have to visit INM a couple of times during the process (tramite).

Thanks for the clarification, rvgringo. I've not been able to find a list of what I need to take to INM (not sure what the acronym stands for; I assume the office is in Chapala?) -- do you happen to know if such a list is online. Thank you again.

You need fmm, passport, temp, request letter, form prepared online, copies, personal data authorization, payment from bank with copies minimum or find a nice attorney to do it all for you

I think I know just the attorney to seek out, and he should expect to see me in his office next month. Muchas gracias. :)

One quick follow-up: will I need to show any of the 'proof of financial solvency' documentation I had to show at the consulate when I got the visa?

INM is “Inmigracion“ and, yes, they have an office in Chapala; almost across the street from a very nice lawyer.
