Burglaries
Just for info:
I was with Mexican friends who own a business along the carretera in Riberas yesterday and as we drove along that corridor we ticked off so many businesses that we know of that have been recently burgled. From Tepehua Thrift Shop to ORMA, Telecable, abarrotes, the vivero there, and so on. They are coming in at night through the ceiling or over a back wall even with razor wire. They got into a safe in one of the businesses and scored big. They are very good at their profession.
There have been a few houses in SAT as well, one of them was a neighbor.
So, heads up, there are some talented thieves among us. Be advised.

Thanks for the warning. They would certainly be disappointed if they broke in here.

Yes, the latter of the two Intercasa mentions above, happened in lower Chula Vista, mid morning, The owner surprised the thieves who tried to tie the homeowner up and got away with a lot of things.

Are they trained not to eat any meat given to them by anyone other than you?

My friend has 10 dogs, all large. A guy came over the wall while she was away with his own ladder. He was climbing up to the balcony when the maid came out and looked down at him. He beat it, leaving his ladder behind. Dogs were no deterrent to him at all, he made sure to keep away from them and have the ladder between him and the dogs at all times. So, I guess it depends. I have a few smaller dogs who I know would attack and bite but I lock up.

Re: Burglaries
Agreed. Dogs are a great deterrent against "opportunist" thieves looking for the easiest score however not against professionals unless the dogs are highly trained. Even then, as stated above, the professionals may just kill them.

Well aren't you all just little rays of sunshine.
I'm counting on their barks to be deterrents. They are also not loose in the yard at night or when I'm not home. Place is a fortress that would be very hard to penetrate.
On the other hand, shit happens.

My son here has a Belgian Malinois, a magnificent animal. When Navy Team Seal 6 took out Osama Bin Laden, the Belgian Malinois were there to patrol the perimeter. No outsiders who entered the perimeter, left the perimeter.ferret wrote:I have two Belgian Malinois... I double dog dare 'em.

If they want in badly enough, they will get in, no matter what. Twelve years ago the guys literally battered a hole in the brick wall to gain entry to the garden. After that, it was child's play.

I'm sure it was! We saw the caravan towing the car towards GDL and I wondered what had happened since it was surrounded with at least 5 trucks with lights flashing. Now we know.

I have heard more than once that when people become too much trouble, get violent or too greedy, they draw excessive attention to crime and criminals which is bad for "business." If the police do not get them then someone else does. Sounds like maybe this guy was making too much trouble for the wrong people -- if those stories are true, of course.

Re: Burglaries
Sadly, unless people reported their stolen items they may not get anything back. Then again, some victims of home invasions what, 5 years ago, didn't get some of their belongings back because they didn't have a receipt, ridiculous. One neighbor said her new kindle had her name on it, it was reported stolen and after recovered and identified thieves, they wouldn't give that kindle back, said she needed a receipt. Awful. Hope those officials have been fired and long gone now.

What makes you think they would be fired and long gone? I think we'd be better off to assume it's the same old, same old and keep our receipts, when possible.
