If they apply any increase to fix and maintain the local infrastructure I would be happy to pay triple. Unfortunately it will just make the local politico's wealthier.

Okay, that was the least informative article I have read in a long time. Zero specifics, zero information. If it was word soup designed to ruffle feathers I guess it worked on some. Not me.

The OP specializes in posting links to speculative, inaccurate or outright phony "news" articles designed to at least ruffle the feathers of the Chicken Littles. At least some of them can be depended upon to conclude that the sky is falling.

The point is, property taxes are very low in Mexico. Why wouldn't they raise them ?

I'm with those who wouldn't mind seeing higher taxes if that resulted in fixing these @#$%&* streets. Right now, the driving experience resembles riding a bronc.

Also I feel they will raise taxes. But how to give people trust ?
Can that be done?

Certainly not 15% of value. Maybe he wants to "increase" it by 15%.

What a difference a two-letter word can make! Increase it "to" 15% needs more words after it, beginning with "of."

So 15% of value or 15% increase?

I may be mistaken but I have always understood that the predial is set by state legislatures, not federal. The municipalities submit proposals to the state for approval. Most taxes collected are sent to the feds before being reallocated to the states. One exception to this is the predial which remains in the municipality. IMO what Meade is trying to do is lobby for the states to increase the predial. More money that remains in the local coffers means less money the feds will allocate back to the state.

Agreed, Clete. The property tax is a state mandate. Having retired here in Mexico from Northern California, I posit that no matter what they do in Jalisco as far as property taxes are concerned, no way they can punish me financially the way California did. If you Jalisco folks are concerned about property taxes, be advised that I also own a residence in Chiapas, Mexico´s poorest state and property taxes there are miniscule in comparison with Jaisco. I love Lake Chapala where I live about six months a year but we do not welcome more foreigners in Chiapas most of whom today are from Central America - many passing through on the way to the Fat Benefactor up north. However, if you want to live well in an extraordinarily beautiful place on peanuts, see you in San Cristóbal de Las Casas.
