Re: Amazon Now Offering Prime Memberships in Mexico
I tried to enroll but apparently you have to have a Mexican billing address on your credit card. The web site picked up my Amazon.com account information including the credit card I use there.
Anyone found a workaround?

I changed the billing address on my CC to my Mexican address, registered for Prime, then changed it back. Seemed to work.

Bob
Have you successfully ordered anything using Prime?

Re: Amazon Now Offering Prime Memberships in Mexico
I'm currently not enrolled in Amazon Prime now, but I like the idea of free quick shipping. If I enroll here (Portland) at $99 per year, does anyone know if it transferable to Amazon.mx for use at lakeside?
When in Mexico, can I also order on Amazon.com?
Question for CanuckBob...
Your Amazon shipments arrive at your house, right? Who is the carrier? Is it reliable? What do they do if you are not home?

Yes, shipments arrive at the house. The carrier varies depending on the vendor and whether it is eligible for prime. Usually it is DHL or Amazon's own courier service. If you are not home they will attempt another delivery the next day. You can always check the couriers tracking number to see the delivery date. I have had some items delivered in less than 24 hours.

What is the big attraction for signing up for Prime? Free shipping? What else? I just don't see how it's cost effective as you're not really getting free shipping since you are paying a hundred bux a year for the Prime. What am I missing?

Re: Amazon Now Offering Prime Memberships in Mexico
U.S. Prime is not transferable to Mexico Prime. 30 days free trial with MX Prime and then it is 449 pesos/year. I just signed up last month and it's been great. When making a selection, you see the price with duty if any and decide whether to order.
Some things are more expensive but so far I've received clothes/shoes and household stuff that is either not available locally or means hunting in Guadalajara. And yes I know there is a lot in Guadalajara - sure better than 20 years ago but this just shows up at your door!
I was able to sign up for MX Prime using the existing credit card info on my U.S. account and then added my Multiva acct as well but so far there has been no problem using the US accounts. A friend who posts on TOB recently could not open a MX Prime account without a MX address on their credit card as mentioned above (last year). But we both have the same MX card. Quien sabe?

Re: Amazon Now Offering Prime Memberships in Mexico
For Trailrunner...
I mostly buy from Ebay since I don't have Prime now. One advantage of Prime (at least in the US) is 1-2 day shipping. With Ebay "free" shipping, it can take up to a week or more on anything that can't fit in an envelope. Some items if shipped from China can take up to 2 months. Also, any items with substantial weight will not be offered with free shipping on Ebay, so the free shipping with Prime really helps. I guess I'm just a patient guy and am willing to wait.
I've just experienced a mis-order using Home Depot where an item needed to be ordered twice and will take 20 days once the item comes in. It cost 2x the price for the same item on Amazon.
In Mexico, another choice is Mercado Libre which I have not tried.

I like Mercado Libre: order online, pay cash at the Oxxo and in a few days it is here. I use Sol y Luna as a delivery point so I don't worry about being home or people finding my house.

What I'd love is to pay a premium on my Canadian Prime to expand it to international. Then I could order here as well as getting free shipping on gifts to relatives in the States. I'd pay a premium for that.
