Oven help Empty Oven help

Post by Canada_Mike Tue Feb 21, 2017 3:11 pm

So, in December my (very old) stove tried to kill me. I was preheating the oven to warm up a nice frozen dinner. I set it and went to the porch to relax. Suddenly there's this huge BOOM! I ran back inside and my stove was on it side, still on, and the oven door was wide open. The scary part was that all wee bits and pieces from the range top were all over the place, and had obviously been flung around with considerable force. Had I been in the kitchen I might well have caught one of those with my head. I’d had the oven adjusted before, but this was it. Off to Two Sam.

Since my wife is an ace cook she wanted me to get a really good stove. I ended up selecting a Mabe IO - a deluxe job. It works great save for one thing: the oven takes forever to preheat and seems like it won’t go over 200c [400f]. (I know one rarely needs that high a temp.) Is it the altitude? Am I missing something?

(I also got new fridge with an ice thingy built into the door. Every time i use it I feel like Lucille Ball in the pie factory.)

Gracias,
Michael

One thing to check is the "regulator" at the propane tank.  We had a problem a couple of months ago similar to yours. The oven took a long time to preheat and it would not get above 300F.  We had a guy come out and first thing he did was check the regulator and replaced it.  It was old and it sits out in the sun everyday.  After he replaced it everything was back to like-new.  Even the burners on the stove were higher and it takes a lot less time to boil water now.

My stove had little to no flame. Had Home Doctor come out and clean the lines. Works great, now - baking every week (at least until it's too hot in the house).

Yep, check the regulator first.

Trailrunner - Home Doctor is Alberto Farias; trained in the US on HVac but does plumbing, electrical, pools, a/c, heaters and appliances. 24/7 331 706 9407 763 1200
Pulled the stove out, took everything apart, used a compressor to blow out all the connections and put it all back together.

Thanks, Wide Sky! I will try Alberto next time I have the need. I've seen a small car driving around SAT with the sign Home Services on it. . .

Yes, my neighbors had their regulator changed by the gas truck guys. They might have to go get a new one and return later with it. They are not expensive so if you haven't changed it in years you just might want to do it now.
