Food To Go
Every Friday between 4 and 6 pm I search for something yummy to pick up on my way from La Cristina to SAT.
Prefer relatively easy in and out and not too long to prepare the food.
Suggestions????

Patos Pizza on Morelos in Chapala and he delivers.

I'd suggest ordering a second helping of your favorite toppings on a thin crust pie. Best durn pizza I ever et.

Re: Food To Go
David's new taco place closes at 4. Lake Taco closes at 5. Although Mario's is saying they are open at night on weekends, they were not open at 6 last Friday.
Thanks for the suggestions, please, keep 'em coming!

Is Juan Mata's bar-b-que still available by that time? He sells it at the poutine place across from Super lake

That's it, you guys? Poutine and BBQ are the best you guys can come up with? All the way from La Cristina to SAT??? Come ON!
Even the new little Cafe 133 on the plaza in SAT closes at 4:30! BTW, that is a good place to eat, esp breakfast, and a great addition to the SA food scene.
Easy access. . .tasty. . . 'fast'. . . we really need a 'fast food/take out place here! That doesn't turn into a pumpkin at 4:30.

You want fast and after 4 pm? Food court at the Centro Laguna mall. Subway, Trip's burgers, Giovanni's Italian, Chinese and I think a Mexican food place. Tony's, near Superlake.
I'm not saying this is gourmet fare. For "good", Gaucheria is staying open past 5 now. That's the best, but slower than the mall.

Re: Food To Go
Before you leave La Cristina call ahead to Perry's, Hosteleria del Art, La Mesa or others along the carreterra, order what you want, stop enroute and pickup, then home. There are SOOOOO many restaurants along the carreterra. Have you thought of ordering on your way TO La Cristina for a specific pickup time? I know it means being organized but .... Only other thing would be to make your favourite stew, casserole, soup ahead of time and freeze. Take it out just before you leave to thaw, when you get home, heat and serve but if you don't cook, then..... back to poutine & bbq.

Re: Food To Go
Thanks, Wide Sky, that's pretty much what I've been doing for the last 4 years. I was fishing for something different. I do cook, but don't always have something to readily eat. Thanks again for your thoughtful response.
Thanks, Gringal, I've been to the food court a couple of times and didn't see anything I really wanted to eat. The thought of steam-table food that's been sitting there since 10 AM doesn't make me want to turn in either. Do you think they are all open in the 4 to 6 time frame?

I tried to answer your PM you re the sausages, but there's a glitch that is making it "time out" on even short responses. So, here's my best answer:
The ONLY real deal sausages I've found are from the sausage guys at the Tuesday market. One need not tarry there: we are always in and out of there in under ten minutes for several things we can't get anywhere else.
Go in the front door; turn right and about the second spot down on the left are the sausage guys, with tasting samples of all their types. Worth the hassle. Buen Provecho!

Re: Food To Go
Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions and thoughts. Appreciate it. I was given the news last night that David's new place, Frida's Tacos, across from SL is open on Friday and Saturday evenings to 7 or so and have gluten free and veg options as well as usual Mexican fare. Gracias, David! That will do it for me easily.
Canada Mike, tell me more about the tamale place, please. What big new building? The one where the doctor and eye doctor were? What kind of tamales? Just tamales? Restaurant or puesto? Inquiring minds . . . . . TIA

It's called Tamales Elba....there is a sign....next to El Pechugon chicken on the corner. They are the best we've had in 20 yrs in Mexico!

Thanks WillieRae. They have pork red and green, chicken and dulce. They also have veggies, and supply you with condiments. They do have tables, but Ive always taken out.
The building I meant was the one they are just finishing in record time.

YAY David! Tacos Frida!
Finally found an easy parking fast food stop for the way home on Fridays, Tacos Frida. They were open at 6 and the food was great! Mole, tacos, enchiladas, tostadas, all gluten free, some vegetarian some meat, all the salsas and condiments, 3 aguas frescas, and much more. Nice ladies, very very economical. I will eat there every Friday!

Great directions!! Ajijic, Chapala, San Antonio, San Juan Cosala?
I just heard last night that the Pollo Feliz has really good Arrachera to go, gotta try it.
Where is Taco's Frida, I have seen it somewhere?

OK. In Ajijic, on the mountain side of the carretara, just at the first traffic light east of Colon, next door to the corner chicken place, Pechugon [?], is Elba tamales. Hope that's better.
Re: Food To Go
We are expecting hungry young family visitors shortly, and having heard good things about this place, my husband went there to buy a couple to taste test and asked what kind of oil they use. Answer: pork based. So, that ended that plan. The tamale ladies at the Tuesday market haven't been there lately, so can anyone suggest where to find tamales using vegetable oil or olive oil?
