If you choose to live where there is no water, you might get thirsty.

...because a family with 4 small children that earns $600us a month has so many options available to them. Perhaps some shopping on Rodeo Drive to ease their worries?

When you were born and raised and lived all your life in one place, it is extremely difficult to move. I have relatives who live in a small town in western Pennsylvania, and they would not be able to move successfully to anywhere, even if it were just 2 towns over. It's all about family and people who have known each other for generations. Same in Mexico. One might assume that people who live in Mexico City are urbanized and move about, but that's not necessarily true. I lived most of my life in Boston, MA, and heavens to Betsy, people would not move out of their neighborhoods for flood, fire, earthquake or whatever.

Sam Kinison offered the solution long ago for residents of water depleted areas.

" If no water let them drink Champagne"

Joke aside this is a very disturbing situation. I am sure downtown and the business district have water. I also do wonder why they stay as Rich said. Do Mexican never move the homestead??? I don't know. I knew it was bad but had no idea that it was this bad. Do they stay for the work??? Water is a pretty high priority. The government probably should take over the trucks if this is the best private enterprise can do.

Or water????? Our family left Michigan after the riots in a hurry. Dumped our house after bullets went past our heads. Armed soldiers in our schools. Now I admit we were middle class and had some money to move but the point was we moved. It became unacceptable to live with the risks. We lost lots of money on our house. Sometimes you just have to punt and move is my point. I think its more than money why they don't leave.

Poor people don't move. Where would they go? How would they get there and how would they move their essential possessions? Where would they move to, another city or village nearby? Where would they live when they got there? Since they likely don't pay rent now, how would they pay rent in a new place? Since they would have no extended family in the new place, who would be their support group? Would they be accepted in the new place? Would they be able to find work so they could eat? Poor people don't move unless they are driven out then they become refugees and we know what that looks like now.

Water is not a subject to joke about. I was shocked by a couple of replies. Even the references to food.

Empathy is definitely in short supply these days.

Well explained thank you. We moved when it sucked to be where we were. We could make new friends. It is very different from my early life. I guess I was use to moving. Why would I know? Nothing about empathy but knowledge.

Just unbelievable ..

Believe it ma'am. I had a house guest today from CDMX and I asked him about the situation. It is true they have to show their party affiliation because the water is brought in FREE by a political party. He said it was the PRD, the only party that cares about the immobile residents it seems.

I thought Trailrunner's post said it very well.
It may take considerable imagination to picture yourself in extreme poverty. There is no such thing as "savings" to cover the simplest kind of move.
