Founder of "La Familia" cartel captured
Surprised that the forums aren't buzzing about the capture of "El Chango" who is the founder of the "La Familia" cartel in Michoacan. For those who don't understand, "La Familia" cartel "owns" the state of Michoacan. Although they claim to protect those within "La Familia" they are horrid murderers, extortioners, & kidnappers. Some of their activity includes wiping out indigenous pueblos by looking for the "valiant" to join them. Making family fight against family to death. Sick. Mexican government makes wild claims they are incapacitated and unable to regroup but comments following state otherwise that they are foolish thoughts. We'll see. Just to put your mind at ease, if you aren't involved in organized crime, you may hear about it but never see it. In over 7 years living in Mexico, we haven't seen anything but maybe local gangs running through a neighborhood you probably wouldn't be visiting.

Here's a link to a similar article in English at The Borderland Beat.

Beyond interesting that he went to the Zetas for help, his rivals. Recently a resident of Michoacan explained to me that all the gross beheadings in Acapulco are done by the Zetas against La Familia.
The borderland beat report sure makes it sound hopeful to disperse of these sick cartels.

Re: Founder of "La Familia" cartel captured
On the surface, the arrest of El Chango might be viewed as a positive. However, the fact that he was arrested in Aguascalientes is a rear negative. He had apparently just negotiated an alliance with Los Zetas, who had been their mortal enemies just months before. In that agreement, Los Zetas agreed to send 200 members to Michoacan to assist in the fight with the Knights Templar, a spinoff group from La Familia. Now there is an alliance between Los Zetas, one of the most brutal of cartels and an organization without a leader. Use your imagination to figured out where that is headed! Then today, I read an article that seems to indicate that El Chapo has the most to benefit from this latest upheaval: http://www.lapoliciaca.com/nota-roja/el-chapo-se-beneficiara-mas-con-el-golpe-a-la-la-familia-stratfor/
The State of Michoacan, with the exception of a few areas, has been fairly calm as of late but all of these twists and turns may not be good for the stability!
