Mexican Bank Account
As much as I do not want to put my money in a local bank the writing is on the wall. My US bank is just a PIA about me being in Mexico and will not in the future send me debit and credit cards here, just to my bogus US address that costs a lot of money to be forwarded. I will also, I guess, need to have my funds direct deposited here too.
I as for recommendations for a local bank. My preference would be HSBC, but I can only find their ATMs and no branch. In your recommendation, please tell me the costs involved for one with a debit card as I am used to never paying a fee of any kind in the US. I will not require checks, nor a credit card, just a deposit account with the ability to get money at their ATMs. Also, I would like a bank that has a branch physically located between WalMart and Chapala.

I use Bancomer which doesn't charge any fees as long as you keep a balance of 4500 pesos (I think that's the amount, but not completely certain.) I only use it to direct deposit my SS check. It's a checking account but I don't have checks. They have branches all over the place including Chapala and there's a Bancomer ATM at Walmart as well as the large shopping centers in Guad as well as at Costco. I've never had a problem with them. The SS is deposited on the 3rd of each month and available on the 4th.

Re: Mexican Bank Account
Somehow I managed to open two threads of the same subject and I am sorry.
Does anyone know the scoop on HSBC, my preferred bank, as I have had a relationship with them in the US and find their dual currency ATMs a real asset in my particular circumstances? If so, does anyone in their branch speak English?
