Walmart/Bank Account Empty Walmart/Bank Account

Post by Bajabrady Fri Apr 29, 2016 5:30 pm

New here and I have a couple questions. Can I get a Mexican bank account without being a citizen. How bout the Walmart card? Pretty sure the answer is no. But I'm wrong 99% of the time.

Banco Walmart was purchased by Inbursa owned by Carlos Slim.
Yes can you can open an account there without being a citizen.
I've banked there for 8 years without any problems.

You're welcome.
One caveat, you can't deposit US checks until you've had an account there for two years,I just withdraw cash from my NOB account via ATM and deposit it.

There's one more thing: They won't give you a credit card unless you already have one at another Mexican bank.

If you have an existing bank NOB, I would suggest you keep it and their credit card... Also if you have read this blog on bank problems you might wish to keep only what you can afford to lose in a Mexican bank...

They gave me a Visa credit card a month ago and I don't have any accounts at other Mexican banks.

Everyone's situation is different,in my case my wife is Mexican and I wanted her to have easy access to funds.
Like I said before, in 8 years we've never had any problems.

Either they have different rules for different folks, or the fella I talked to gave me misinformation.  Since then, I've applied for and received an American Express card from one of their divisions which accepts international clients.  They KNOW where I live, so no phony address game was needed.  For those seeking cards, this is one route.  I'm one of the dumpees from Banamex USA, which finally dumped my credit card, too.  That left me with NO credit cards.  The only thing I would use it for is buying plane tickets, etc.  You don't really miss 'em till you don't have any. Rolling Eyes

I have two Mexican bank accounts, but keep a total balance of less than a week's vacation's worth of money in them.
I agree that you shouldn't keep more in them than you can afford to lose.

They might have changed their policy when Inbursa bought Banco Walmart recently.

Could be. It's been months since I inquired.
