El Gaucho Tequila, Uruguayan place or ???
We rarely eat steak but have a special occasion coming up and wondered if either of these new-ish places are worthwhile. We're renting in San Antonio and don't have a car, so the proximity is appealing.
Adelita's is of course closer still and has wonderful atmosphere and service, but haven't had dinner there yet (just lunches). Just hoping for a good steak, salad and bottle of wine and pleasant atmosphere. Any recommendations appreciated.

I didn't have a steak as such at Gaucho Tequila but had the Che Philly sandwich which was perfection.

Agree with Bob, if you want a nice steak and a bottle of wine it would be worth the cab ride there and back. Most consistent good steak around

If I were choosing between Adelita's, Gaucho Tequila or Tango, my first choice would be Adelita's! Wonderful atmosphere, and consistently good food.
Gaucho Tequila was good when they first opened, but they've gone through a revolving door of staff, and the quality has suffered. I used to go at least once or twice a week, but had not gone for a couple of months. I went for lunch the other day and ordered the arrachera, cooked to medium well. I had to send it back twice. Both times they sent out a rare to medium rare steak (two different steaks!). I wasn't about to order it for a third time, so instead I had the Che-Philly torta, which was good.
I haven't been to Tango for some time, but I find the tables too crowded in and noisy now.

Thanks everyone for your responses.
I've never had a good steak at Tango, though the lunch specials are fine and the atmosphere and wine program excellent by local standards.
It's always a trade-off locally. Gossip's probably has the most skilled kitchen, but it also has carretera-fume ambiance. For steak and burgers Bruno's may still be the best, but no wine program, erratic hours and service and you've gotta be willing to have your clothes reek of smoke when you depart.
Adelita's may actually be the best overall combo of atmosphere, food and service. I think we'll go there (with Trip's Burgers and a killer bottle of wine at home as backup plan ).
Thanks agains for sharing your thoughts.

Since I am not lakeside, do most of the sit down restaurants allow smoking. I do not like cigarette or cigar smoke. Most pipe smoke is not so bad.
Waiting on date for escort when I drive down, so may be here soon. Thanks, BB

No, smoking is not allowed inside any restaurant. Some have outdoor patio's where smoking is allowed. Smoking is not legal in bars either however some choose to ignore the law and allow smoking anyways.
