New Telecable speed information
I went into the Telecable office both yesterday and today and was told that the fastest service they have available is 5 down by 2 up lakeside. When I told them that my next door neighbor gets more than 10 on his telecable account. They said that did not matter. They were only giving out the 5 meg package and that if I paid for more that I would still only get 5 mb/sec down.
I asked them, how could that be and they just said that this is all Guadalajara would give me.. Well I signed up and for $208 pesos per month I can have their 5 Meg package delivered by cable or for $50 pesos more per month I can have a wireless service included. I chose the $208 package as I have an old wireless router from The Lagunanet Internet days.
Things are changing at Telecable now that they have a new owner.

What were the old Telecable speeds, Pete? Before the takeover.

Re: New Telecable speed information
They offered and have clients who are charged and get close to or actually
5 down by 2 up for $208 pesos per month
8 down by 2 up for $313 pesos per month
10down by 2 up for $418 pesos per month
15down by 2 up for $623 pesos per month
There is an additional charge of $50 pesos per month for a Wi-Fi router. I already have one that I used when I was with Lagunanet.
My next door neighbor hooked up to the same box on our telephone pole has been getting about 12 down for perhaps a year.
Sadly the information highway between Guadalajara and lakeside isn't big enough to give everyone the high speed connections.

I get the idea that they are rationing the speed of new users to ensure that those with higher speeds continue to get that higher speed. Apparently the backbone is not large enough to let new clients have higher speeds.

Re: New Telecable speed information
My next door neighbor who had been gone up North when I wrote the above post connects to the same box on the same telephone pole I do. He has had an account with Telecabe for several years and he has never had faster. He is now getting 15 down.
Sadly the fastest they would give me until they have a larger internet "highway" between Guad and lakeside is 5 down by 2 up. I guess they don't want to, as I said above. overload the internet connection between here and Guad. They say though, that soon (I'm afraid to ask what that really means) they will have more capacity and will be able to increase the speed I can subscribe to
