need to remove/replace a tree... Empty need to remove/replace a tree...

Post by toedippers Sat Jun 18, 2016 8:57 pm

We have a nopales (cactus) tree bordering our patio that has been attacking all who go within 20 feet of it.

I've just learned today about glochids (tiny hairlike spines that float out of the tree and apparently stick mostly to skin).

I've suggested folks use masking tape to remove the spines and that the tree is nice to look at  - but the family have mutinied and want it gone.

Two questions for those with a green thumb...

1. Who best to come and remove it - roots and all - and then replace it?

2. What should I replace it with? The location is on the edge of a patio, it gets lots of sun, has good drainage, should be a 'show tree' interesting to look at in some way (leaves/flowers/bark) and it should provide shade - but it can't block the view so the first 6 or 10 feet of it needs to be mostly trunk.... oh and it cant be a messy tree leaving sticks and leaves on the patio all the time...  sorry the requirements list is long.  Having no real knowledge of all the wonderful plants that grow here - any suggestions would be appreciated.

My hope is to plant a good sized tree - no interest in watching something grow from a sprout...

thanks

Roberto Delgado of Chapala Tree Service 762-0602 or cel 331-411-0242. He's a real pro at tree trimming and removal. He can recommend a replacement tree and get you one and plant it, too.

There's a guy who sells trees by the south (Lake) side of the carretera west of Ajijic around the Jocotepec/Chapala line. He has a big stock, but picking the right variety would be up to you.
