Day of the Dead Tour 31st Oct - 3rd Nov 2016
Hi everyone,
My name is Dan Patman and I am new to the board but have quite a few friends, family and clients in the Chapala area. My tour company - Mex-ECO Tours has been operating in the Melaque area for 10 years and the Bucerias area for 3.
We offer fully guided and accompanied tours ranging from 3 to 7 days around Mexico and also Guatemala and this year Cuba. Our tours also include pick up points in Guadalajara.
We are planning our 4th visit to the state of Michoacan for the amazing festivities of Day of the Dead. Join us and bear witness to one of the most traditional celebrations in Mexico, Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead). During this celebration families decorate the graves of their lost loved ones with food, drink, photographs and other items that they enjoyed during life. The belief is that their souls return to the earth to listen to the prayers and conversations of their families during this one special night.
During the first day of this tour we visit the beautiful city of Morelia, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. On our second day we travel to the towns of Tzintzuntzan and Pátzcuaro where we have the opportunity to see the celebrations in their most extravagant form. We learn about this interesting tradition and the special importance that it has in this region, whilst we admire the beautiful flowers, catrinas (skeleton figures) and other decorations. During the night the cemeteries are illuminated with thousands of candles and the life of all the people that join together to celebrate the lives of their lost loved ones.
After the excitement of the celebrations we have a relaxing morning in Morelia followed by a visit to the beautiful Pueblo Mágico (Magic town) of Cuitzeo. From there we head to Guadalajara to enjoy this colonial city centre and the beautiful Tlaquepaque. This trip includes local artisan markets with Michoacan’s famous handicrafts!
If you are interested in joining us then please contact me.
Regards,
Dan

Re: Day of the Dead Tour 31st Oct - 3rd Nov 2016
Good morning Lunamex,
Thank you for your interest. We have been following the news in the area and more importantly speaking to our friends and colleagues on the ground in and around Morelia and they all inform us that the area is safe and we should definatley not cancel. In fact Patzcuaro is full and Morelia is very close to full for almost all hotels for the days around Day of the Dead.
As such we are still going to be taking our trip from the 31st to the 3rd. Here below is our itinerary for the trip, as you would be joining us from the Chapala area I assume you would probably not want the stay in the centre of GDL on the way back and we would discount this from your total.
If you would like to join us then please write to our email - info@mex-ecotours.com and from there we can send you the payment details.
Price: $5,900 pesos per person, including transport, accommodation, breakfasts and guide. Single person supplement: $1,200 pesos.
Price does not include: lunches, evening meals or tips for guide, driver or hotel staff.
The order/timing of this itinerary maybe subject to change due to issues such as traffic, weather conditions etc.
Day 1: Travel to Morelia and City Centre Tour
6am departure to Morelia. Packed lunch provided on bus (approx. 8 ½ hours).
Arrival to Morelia, check‐in at hotel then optional city tour, followed by free time for dinner in the city.
Day 2: Tzintzuntzan, Pátzcuaro and the lakeside towns
Breakfast in hotel (included) followed by departure to Tzintzuntzan to see one of the most visited
graveyards. Witness the locals in preparation for the evening; a great chance to see the impressive
flower arrangements, candles and other offerings in the daylight. From Tzintzuntzan we head to
Pátzcuaro for lunch and orientation, followed by free time to enjoy the market display around the main
plaza (erected for this special occasion, full of handicrafts and cuisine typical of the region). Dinner
included in Pátzcuaro and chance to change clothing and rest before evening activities.
8pm: Travel to the lakeside towns to see the impressive sights of the graveyards lit up with candle light
and the crowds of people taking part in the celebration of the lives and memories of their lost loved
ones. Approximate arrival time to hotel in Morelia: 2am.
Day 3: Morelia and Cuitzeo
Breakfast in hotel (included), followed by free time in Morelia and lunch (not included) before departure

centre followed by optional group meal (not included in price) and return to hotel.
Day 4: Guadalajara and return travel
Breakfast in hotel followed by optional tour of Guadalajara’s historic centre (included in price). Transfer
to Tlaquepaque for free time and lunch before return travel. Approximate return time: 8 ‐ 9pm.
