Hiring musicians.....
So we're thinking of having a party in a couple weeks and thought a little live music might be fun...
any recommendations and or idea the cost?
Could be Mariachis?
Maybe a trio or small group?
Perhaps even a soloist with a guitar or violin...
Looking for typical Mexican music/standards - something for the Mexican side of the family to sing along with/tap toes to... seeing as my lovely wife can tell the difference between Vincente and Alejandro Fernandez but not name a single Beatles song... (my cross to bear - sorry if I sound bitter... but not even 1?!?)
thanks

Re: Hiring musicians.....
Just about any band in town will do private gigs. Expect to pay about 3000 to 4000 pesos for a trio or quad man band for a 4 hour gig. Large Mariachi bands charge more.
Re: Hiring musicians.....
This group played at a friends recent 60th birthday. I just love them. Everybody loved them. Nice mix of listenable and dance music. A couple of great classic Mexican vocal tunes too. Highly recommended.

Talk to Chuni Medeles at the CCA at the plaza, he knows every musician in town.

It is the cultural center on the plaza between the old chapel and El Jardin restaurant.

Thanks to everyone for their advice... we went with this group and although they've changed their name, the music was great and everyone enjoyed themselves
We also had the party catered by Chile Verde (good food, inexpensive, no work for us... yay!)
ps - this board has been a wonderful help to us as we become acclimatized to the area - thanks again everyone!
