Can the above be obtained at the degalldo's office in Ajijic or do you have to go to City Hall in Chapala?

Muchas gracias.

Haha they want to get hitched hocks not unhitched!

We've had two marriages in our family, mis hijos. And they went to the judges office in Ajijic. Two civil wedding services there as well. You go there and the judge tells you what you need to get married. Then proceed from there.

Mexican tradition says the CIVIL wedding dinner belongs to the family of the groom as opposed to the CHURCH wedding extravaganza, which is the responsibility of the family of the bride.
Daughters can be costly. (to get rid of) LOL.  A form of dowry.

both weddings were completely different because of differenet circumstances:
1st wedding:  Important in some families that the groom's family eats a meal with the bride's family and the groom's father speaks with the bride's father.  We missed this part totally lol My son said he didn't need his father to ask for him, he could speak for himself and went and talked with the father of the bride.  I'm still not sure it's not a touchy thing with my dear dil.  I think she's forgiven us. lolol  We did not get what we had done until a year after they were married.

We took both families out after the civil wedding.

Bride's family paid for the wedding dinner.  There were so many guests invited and being it was bi lingual we knew we'd lose the English crowd, which is exactly what happened.  I offered to be the madrina of the wedding cake because the bride was going to have someone just bring any ol cake.  Bride didn't think wedding cake was so important.  They loved the wedding cake I got for them and people raved about it years afterward.  I also had fresh cut up fruit and drinks at the location of the wedding.  Then we cleaned up and met up at a restaurant where more guests on the bride's side showed up to.   We left early after a meal and a few mariachi limbo lines.  We had family visiting from the US that were flying out the next day and it was very LOUD! Hard to visit.

2nd wedding: Brides family doesn't keep any traditions and most of the family live out of state.  Father had passed away.  We paid for the everything.  Groom's family paid for everything.

Each family is different.  Ask the bride and groom what they want or what their traditions are?   We mixed things up a little bit because we came from the US.  Both weddings were completely different and totally beautiful!

Do you need any information about baby showers?

When I got married (like a dumb azz), I did it all at the Registro Civil. There was no ceremony whatsoever at all. We just  signed our papers with a thumb print. Nobody, including the witnesses we snagged off the street, said one word of congratulations. It was quite a depressing event after reflection.

I know that a civil wedding is just a formality before a church wedding for most Mexicans, but we skipped that crap, opting to go home and watch El Chavo instead.

Haha, when t got married the Mexican government charged me 4000 pesos for a permit to marry one of their citizens,I told them that I already had her father's permission, they didn't care..
Oh it was also suggested that I give the judge a tip...

Didn't the judge explain the do's and don't's of the responsibility of a marriage contract....for the propina?  Seems like I heard a small lecture for the "fee".   Very Happy

David,I had to get a recent appostilled and officially translated birth certificate from California, what a PITA that was, and attend a"platica at the DIF".
The judge wasn't getting any propina from me..
I did tip the (viene viene) outside the Registro Civil though.
