problems on libramiento

What is going on with repairs and accidents on libramiento?

They are resurfacing and clearing dried brush back from the road.

When I went to the airport on Friday they had a half road, and you had to wait for the flagman. They must have moved down and blocked NE access on the weekend. Still, only took me 20 minutes to get from Chapala to Ajijic, and the repairs are needed.

I read that there is loose gravel. There has been 10 accidents and two deaths...

Its on facebook...one of the dead was the fire chief of ixtlahuacan...he lives in ajijic. His accidente happened in front of school on libramiento. Chapala is hush hush because its there repair job.

How awful and what an outrage!  With the piles of loose gravel, it's easy to spin out of control!  ARGH, Irritated!

Says one death is Cruz Roja paramedic, Jorge Chavez, and a young person. So sad.

I know that a young man who is a first responder with the Chapala Ambulance crew - not on duty - died in a car accident last night. His funeral was this afternoon and that was the cause of the large procession of sirens going through town. The first responder and emergency communities be they Police, Fire, Rescue, EMTs, or Medical Response teams, tend to pay formal respect to their own when they pass. Hardly hush, hush. I heard nothing about the fire chief of ixtlahuacan.

Yep. Jorge was a paramedic for CR Chapala and a really nice guy. Very very sad. Damn, what a waste.
I imagine what I saw this evening was his celebration of life. Every ambulance from departments all around the area and multiple fire apparatus were parked on the lateral between Yve's and Just Chillin'.

So, I guess they had no warnings, flares, flags, signs, nada and everyone coming down the hill at a moderate, or even faster, rate of speed suddenly drives onto a layer of loose gravel on the highway resulting in no traction, no brakes, no shoulder nowhere to go, probable oncoming traffic, crash? Per the video, looks like lack of seatbelts may have been a factor.

Pray for the medics and firefighters who had to respond to this call for one of their own. RIP, Jorge.

A tragedy. My condolences to all.

His mass will be at 12 noon in chapala. Burial in ajijic after mass. Expect traffic delays from chapala to ajijic from 2 to 5 pm

I went to the mass today.
They passed me on the highway so I dropped the dog off and went back to Chapala to the mass. I'm so glad I did. It was sad, warm hearted, and noble. Jorge's coworkers, friends, and family never left his side, and I think it's been that way since he left the mortuary. Maybe before. Even during the mass people all took turns standing next to the casket with their hands on it. I saw a lot of old friends.

A light moment was as the priest was saying mass he rang a little bell 3 times. The first bell was followed by sirens and air horns from the engines parked (literally) on the steps of the iglésia; second bell, same thing, sirens and air horns; third bell, silence. After a couple of beats someone from the back of the church let out a shrill whistle which was directly followed by sirens and air horns.
