Local printer ink?
Hi, is there anywhere in Ajijic or Chapala to buy printer ink? I need HP 664.
Cheers,
Michael

Re: Local printer ink?
The only 664 cart I could find was at best buy. They have two kinds. 664 and 664XL which has three plus times the ink thus the XL. Color and Black were both available in XL. Why Costco doesn't have the Carts for the printer they sell is beyond me. Carts included in new 4535 AIO are even smaller but what do you expect for a 777 Peso All in one printer? Having the XL carts available makes sense for high volume printers but both 664XL carts costs more than printer LOL. 664XL black and 664XL color cost 980 Peso at best buy for both. If you don't use printer much get smaller carts (664).
Cart Specs below
664 Color 100 pages
664 Black 120 pages
664XL Color 330 pages
664XL Black 480 pages

Ah, that's what I thought. It's one of those things you use once in awhile and pour money into all the time whether you use it or not! I remember now.
I let the papelerias play that game now.

Re: Local printer ink?
Got it at Benno's, but no XL. I'll let Miguel know. At lest saved me a trip to Guadalajara.
Re: Local printer ink?
The XL only makes sense if you print a great deal. Ink does evaporate over time which is why you should put your ink carts in a baggy in the fridge (not freezer) if you are not printing for a month or so. These carts combine pen and ink so keeping a cart for too long can cause problems with ink evaporation ruining the pen that sprays ink in the cart. More expensive ink jets keep the the pen (printhead) and ink in seperate containers so you can replace the ink without throwing out the printhead.
Only get the XL if you need to print more than the 664 regular cart. can print in a year.
Yes printless has its merits for sure but when you need a printout you need it. I worked for years for the ink jet division at HP so my opinions have some merit in this subject matter FYI. Color inkjet can be cheaper per page than color laser jet output FYI. Color laser output is more permanent than most ink jet output but I generally don't keep my printout in the rain laugh out loud.
FYI I am very happy with my new HP 4535 All in one printer scanner. Great value for low to medium volume printing. I like some of the Epsom printers that have replaceable ink also but you pay more up front compare to the cheap HP AIO.
For you folks who buy new HP printers and replacement carts thank you as you pay for my retirement and I am very grateful for this!!! Also glad to know Bennos has replacement cart even if they don't have the XL versions. Still a good thing for local needs as best buy is an hour away.

Most companies that make printer cartridges are getting smarter now. They realized how much they were losing to these guys that refill cartridges. Many cartridges now have a chip installed that knows when it runs out of ink. Even when you refill it, it still thinks it's empty, and it won't work!

Costco now has the 664 and XL carts in stock as Kim said. Costco much cheaper than best buy for ink/cart.

It all depends. Some are still refillable until they time out. Many carts have expiration dates on them. Some can tell when they are empty so refill before it is fully empty. Some even this sneaky bit doesn't work. They give the printers away so they have to get money from you one way or the other or they would be out of business. If you think an AIO printer can be made for 799P you are dreaming. The more expensive the AIO printer the less per page your print cost is. So high volume printing get a more expensive printer with external ink but low cost per page. That 799P AIO you will pay for the new cart up the nose which has cart and ink in one device so you have a high cost per page as you throw away the printhead when you get a new cart. You control the costs.
