2 Scarey Looking Guys and Dog
The dogs in my neighborhood went off and wouldn't stop this morning around 9. Finally I went to see and yell at them but stopped in my tracks. A skinny, dirty, stick carrying, desperate looking guy was going through the garbage on the corner. He had a white, skinny, pit-bull looking dog with him that was also scrounging around the neighborhood. The guy took some things from the pile and put them in a box he had parked in front of my house with things he had collected. One of my neighbors happened to walk by and the guy hit him up for money, my neighbor gave him 100 pesos and quickly moved on. The guy spent about 10 mins doing this then was joined by another guy, whom I didn't get a good look at, and they and dog moved on. They were moving around rapidly.
The guy I did get a good look at was skinny, guerro, about 5'11"/6', some facial hair, scruffy looking, brownish hair, mid/late 30s maybe 40, wearing dark pants and a light blue plaid shirt with the sleeves cut off at the yoke.
If you see these guys, give them a wide berth.

I'm going to take a wild guess and bet that your neighbor is not Mexican.Trailrunner wrote:One of my neighbors happened to walk by and the guy hit him up for money, my neighbor gave him 100 pesos and quickly moved on.

No, Mexican! And I know he couldn't afford to give the guy 100p. He pulled out a wallet and quickly pulled out the money and handed it over. I thought he may have known the guy or was unnerved enough to give him more than usual.

That's amazing.
People don't hand out 100 pesos to recyclers around here.

Re: 2 Scarey Looking Guys and Dog
You know, this guy wasn't your usual 'recycler'. Both he and the dog looked like crackies. There was an urgency about him. I've never seen him before. He gave me the heebie-jeebies. I felt that if I had unluckily opened the gate to take out the garbage or something he would have been in my house in a second.

I respect your spidey sense, Trailrunner. The guy sounds like bad news. Maybe your neighbor knows who this guy is and thought it worth 100 pesos to be left alone?

Re: 2 Scarey Looking Guys and Dog
Thanks, LOL.
I agree. I think maybe he knew him too.
SAT is full of new faces and cars for the holidays. They are family and friends of residents visiting and, of course, some opportunity-seeking scruff. And probably worse.
I have had the good fortune to meet some of my neighbors relatives who are here visiting! One I met the other day spoke perfect English and had lived in Oakland, CA for 24 years. We talked for an hour in English and drove everyone else crazy. He was born and raised here, early forties, and told me the stories of everyone who passed by and many stories about SAT and the people in the past. We marveled at the changes. He told me stories about my house and landlord who now lives in Berkeley.
This guy is now living in one of the scary villages of Michoacan - because his wife is from there and has land and a house there. I told him I thought he should move back here and he said he couldn't unless he didn't want to be with his son who was with us at the time. He then went on to say that his wife's sister was driving her van to the store in this town when she was stopped by bandits who demanded 10,000 pesos or her van. Quickly calculating, she went home and came back with 10,000 pesos and got to keep her van which was worth more. THIS HAPPENED 2 WEEKS AGO.

Re: 2 Scarey Looking Guys and Dog
Could this person be Angel? He is very scruffy and dirty and spends all day going through garbage and trash in the SAT area. He is mentally deficient, very scary looking, but has been doing this for 20 years or longer.
He is basically harmless but ask your neighbor if he knows him by the name of Angel.
A lot of people (incluyendo yo) give him a few pesos from time to time to help him out.

Re: 2 Scarey Looking Guys and Dog
Nope, don't think so. I can think of 3 men who fit your description - the guy with all the bolsas, the short dark older mentally deficient man, or the 'man' (woman) who sleeps around Ramon Corona and Colon and he is none of them. I've never seen this guy before and I've been on this corner for 5 years. This guy was guerro.
He wasn't collecting bottles and recyclables, there were tons of that and he bypassed it all. I saw one thing he pulled out of his box that he took with him and it was a pair of brown slacks.

Re: 2 Scarey Looking Guys and Dog
Maybe the poster intended something like, “Es güero, con ojos de azul y piel clara = He is fair, with blue eyes and light skin“.
Close? Maybe he is an expat keeping a very low profile. Really low.
Guerro = Warrior I don‘t think that was the intention of the poster, unless they guy wanted to fight.

Si, güero is what I meant but I couldn't find the umlaut thingy. Thank you, gentlemen. . .

Press EDIT and look for an option for “Special Characters“. That is how it is done on a Mac, but you should have something similar and it will include math symbols, other alphabets, etc.

What ever happened to the white beggar with the dog that used to terrorize people at SuperLake a few years back?

Re: 2 Scarey Looking Guys and Dog
I never did see that guy! I think they hustled his butt outta here, or maybe he died.
Thanks, RVG, I use all the other symbols regularly but was lazy this time. I knew everyone would know what I meant without it. :)

Re: 2 Scarey Looking Guys and Dog
Don't want to hijack the topic, but regarding umlauts, etc., In MAC for an umlaut use ALT-u, then u again. You end up with ü similarly with N, ALT-n give you ñ when you type n again. Finally, to get an accent on a letter use ALT-e, and then whatever letter it is. é, ó, etc.
