Have Some Madeira My Dear
Dawg and his bride long ago decided on the Mexican Highlands as their retirement haven but Dawg´s sister-in-law, who lives in Paris, just returned from Madeira where she was. at least tangentially looking at homes for retirement on an island she found quite attractive with an excellent moderate climate. The one thing she found disconcerting there was the preponderance of old retired goobers who, she remarked, were the nastiest people as a group she had ever encountered. Well, she clearly has not been to Ajijic or San Miguel d'Allende.

Why, how very perceptive of you, Dawg.
You know, there are places in this world to which certain people are drawn, as if by a magnet. Crestone get its share of New Age nuts, Ajijic and SMA tend to attract the curmudgeonly malcontent. Too bad the lovely island your cuñada discovered turned out to be another haven for the rather noisy male of the species.
I wish her well in her search for the perfect retirement retreat. Lizzy

Or maybe you are hanging in the right places. Birds of a feather, etc.

Stop inviting all your friends over to your place Bob .... you'll see
Re: Have Some Madeira My Dear
Aw come on Sparks. I even thought you were happy and friendly when you came over last year......LOL.
Re: Have Some Madeira My Dear
You are indeed fortunate, C-Bob. With luck you might never run into any of them, either. Lizzy

Why would anyone with their wits intact "hang around LCS"? That's where you zip in, get your book or movie and LEAVE. The "gathering place" can be scary.

That's the scarry part...those people that spend all day nearly every day there. On the other days, they set up tables in front of Actinver and push you to sign their petition to Save The ...whatevers.

Hey puppy...the only good thing to be said about Madeira is that wonderful wine provided by the V. Sattui winery in St. Helena, Ca. It is really to die for!

Re: Have Some Madeira My Dear
I've only been to the LCS once. It was like walking into "Gramma's livingroom" while she was having a teaparty. Scared the hell out of me. I won't be back..........

Ah yes, Lizzy, Darlin'. We just returned to Ajijic from four months in San Cristóbal de Las Casas and the differences in the social environments could not be more startling unless one also had a residence in Ouagadougou. Ajiic is where the Western Auto store franchise owner circa 1960 in Yazoo City goes to retire and play golf in Vista Del Lago and San Cristóbal is where Dobie Gillis and Maynard Krebs retired around 1970 after Dobie broke up with Tuesday Weld and Maynard told Troy Donahue that he was leaving him for Pat Boone. Every time we eat out in San Cristóbal we feel compelled to order the lime jello with marshmallows and every time we eat out in San Cristóbal we like to order the hash brownies to go with our samosas and green tea.
Is there a normal place on the planet?
