IMSS NEWSFLASH
We went to LCS to pay our yearly IMSS insurance fee today. We've had it since we moved here in 2008 but never used it. We had no pre-existing conditions, so no waiting period was imposed.
Today, the representative told us that after about 40 days, we needed to make an appointment and go to the IMSS facility for routine physicals so that there would be a record of our having used the service. They told us that a lady who was in a similar situation (never used it) had to be hospitalized and IMSS was trying to get out of renewing it (didn't completely understand).....but this is something new to be aware of.

Nothing new or breaking newsflash here.
I was told in 2004 when I first signed up that I could have problems if I didn't go and have an appt or check up or something because they needed to start a file/chart on me in case I had an emergency and there could be a problem. I did.
So, go do it.

Re: IMSS NEWSFLASH
Unfortunately for expats, the need for an initial appointment with IMSS, and even maybe annual visits, is empirical knowledge among locals, the importance of which is missed, much to the chagrin, of many of those expats without enough Spanish to actually ask at IMSS.
So, if you have IMSS and have not seen an MD there, you should do so.
