What is the general opinion about renewing IMSS considering all the recent problems some gringoes have experienced?

Re: IMSS
Personally, my wife & I have never had a problem with IMSS. On the other hand, we only used it once for medical; I used it once for dental.mikey1953 wrote:What is the general opinion about renewing IMSS considering all the recent problems some gringoes have experienced?
In view of the fact that Seguro Popular is free to any resident of Mexico, we've decided to enroll with them and avoid the risks.

Re: IMSS
@ mikey1953 - We haven't signed up yet; our IMSS is still good until the end of the month, and one can't have both.
@ kipissippi - I was wondering why I hadn't heard from you; I'll have to check my settings regarding PM's. By September 1st we should be settled in at the house in Mismaloya: 4-BR/2-Bath & garage (big enough for 4 cars, but the owner wants to store some things in half). Fantastic view of the lake and a terrace on the second story that goes around three sides!
Try the PM thing again after a while.

The owners started out asking $400.00 USD; I talked them down to $375.00 USD. Maria & I contacted our Stateside bank to arrange a monthly transfer to Bancomer; the bank wants $36.00 USD for each transfer. We decided that's too much money, so we will have to talk to the owners again and settle on a figure in MXN pesos.
Mismaloya = One of the sites around the lake made famous for the number of pelicans (during season); a poor fishing village. Located between Tuxcueca (the turn-off to Mazamitla) and Tizapán. Drawback - No TelMex Infinitum! No LagunaNet! We're looking for a satellite server (desperately)! Last resort = dial-up! (We can't live without Internet!!!)

Re: IMSS
OK...so it's closer than Tizapan. What was it like living there?
Keep us in the loop on how it goes getting your "lifeline" set up. Pelicans? Love it! Any photos of the new place?

I'll post pictures if the deal doesn't fall through because of these latest complications -- as soon as possible.
Re: Tizapán and what it was like? We love the town and the people -- everybody is so friendly. They especially like the fact that Maria & I are trying to learn Spanish. We wouldn't consider moving were it not for You-Know-Who, which I won't discuss on the public board. If you want specifics, PM me and I'll explain.

Yes I know who...LOL! Oh well...seems like there's always that ooooone little thing that seems to screw up the tranquility.
How do prices compare there to the Northshore? Little difference? BIG difference?
Good luck on your Spanish.. I know it's going to be a huge help in feeling "at home".

Re: IMSS
Prices over here are much cheaper than the Ajijic-Chapala area; that was the major reason for the move. Real estate costs are unbelievably less!!! You should be able to figure that out from the rent price I gave you (above).
Maria priced a pie shell at SuperLake (which she calls "The Highway-Robbery Store"); it was $56.00 MXN there. She put it back on the shelf. Over here, she bought the same pie shell for $21.50 MXN!!!!
(I just noticed that we've gone w-a-a-a-a-a-y off-topic! Further discussion: PM or New Topic, please.)
