Ummmm….The Pope is Here
I'm surprised there is no conversation going on about the visit... the stops he's making that were very obviously carefully chosen, and what he's been saying every step of the way.
I am not Catholic. I am not Mexican. I am not well-versed in visitations from a Pope. I am beyond ignorant. Still, from my little perch, he appears to be saying exactly what needs to be said, exactly where it should be said. In plain words.
As far as I can tell, he's pulling no punches. I'm impressed.
Sure, it's symbolic, but still, there's a lot of power in that. Anybody else following it? Thoughts?

Yes, and I like what I see too.
Loved his sermon to the indigenous of Chiapas.

Re: Ummmm….The Pope is Here
The pope may be ''OK" but the Cardinals and administrators are still stacked in traditional old school behavior. Didn't the church just announce that "Bishops don't have to turn child molesters into police". "That is the job of parents" I read recently. How much has really changed if this is true?? I want to like the pope as I graduated from a very good Jesuit High school and am grateful for a good cheap education. But.......

Pope Francis told his bodyguards to avoid tequila and chiles.
Chiles??
The Pope most revered in Mexico is Juan Pablo el Segundo.

I am not following it. I will be interested if anything comes of the visit and his words. So far it is all just words, nice words, the right words but still just words.
I have had my fill of religious leaders piously mouthing words and waving hands in blessings while outside the palaces of power people continue to suffer and die.

So far very few commun people meet the Pope. Mainly politicias a and actors and singers are nearer to him. It helps to have money. Back in January the mexican catholic church took up collections at all churches to collect money for the visit.
Re: Ummmm….The Pope is Here
Great TV coverage on his final service in Juarez this early evening on most of the local Spanish Channels. It was also on US and Canadian services on their EWTN English language channel, which meant that one could have watched it in English if he wanted.
I caught the last 15 minutes thereof and found it interesting.

I find it ironic the Vatican , the whole complex is surrounded by walls, high walls.
Tear down that wall, what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Re: Ummmm….The Pope is Here
Right. Because walls around property are just the same as a border wall between countries. No difference.

So the Mexican people are the goose and El Papa is the gander.
You find it ironic.....I find your analogy stupid.

Re: Ummmm….The Pope is Here
And for the record, the Vatican is not surrounded by walls. If you have been to Rome, you know you can walk in and out of the Vatican State without even realizing it. The fortress-like walls are around the Papal estate, the Vatican museum, and the other administration buildings. Its like the difference between security for the White House (strong) and security for the District of Columbia (nonexistent).

Re: Ummmm….The Pope is Here
If someone actually believes that a country can "secure" a border with a huuuuuge wall, that it works, is doable, affordable (or you can "make" the other country pay for it), and that candidate(s) proposing it is/are not lying or insane than there is no point in attempting rational argument with that person. You waste your time even reading their ramblings and waste more of it responding to them.

Re: Ummmm….The Pope is Here
Not advocating building a wall or supporting Trump but...
There was a thing called the Iron Curtain that kept people "in" more that "out" 50 years ago. Part of that was the Berlin Wall. There is a wall between North and South Korea.
Governments can and do build walls.

Re: Ummmm….The Pope is Here
Not saying Trump can do it! However the majority of you live behind walls, use security cameras, have dogs ..
So don't write your sanctimonious bs and expect me not to see through it,
Not all of you, but quite a few of you are two faced ignorant fools.

And for the record I have no clue who I'll vote for, and I doubt it will be Trump and it will not be Cruz, nor will it be Bush.

Re: Ummmm….The Pope is Here
Yes, because Germany and North Korea are just the role models today's American needs.
Have you any concept of the money, logistics, and consequences (not to mention futility) of building a wall across the entire border between Mexico and the United States?
We cannot provide proper care for the military members we have broken in our endless wars, feed hungry children, provide affordable healthcare (as every other advanced country on earth does), educate our citizens, repair our cities crumbling infrastructure, properly train police officers to not kill citizens they are supposed to be protecting, but we can foster the wet dreams of every racist, xenophobic voter and convince them to vote against their own best interests and for a facist, narcissistic madman.

Espiritu, that you only "doubt" you will vote for Trump is interesting.
Again, that you compare home security to a border wall says all I need to know about your reasoning skills and explains why you just doubt you will vote for Trump (but probably will).
