Post by viajero Thu Feb 04, 2016 8:31 pm

Today some friends of mine stopped by,they brought an elderly friend who I had never met,he gave me a set of mounted of five point deer antlers that he had brought down from Montana where he had worked for years.
I didn't know wether to accept the gift but my wife said that I should.
Nice people.

Why not?  He will probably be delighted if you show a mild degree of excitement over receiving it.
Maybe he thought you would appreciate "gringo antlers" LOL

Beautiful. I've had a couple of similar experiences. Your wife was right (are they ever not?).

A Tapatio paid for my taxi ride from the airport to Ajijic. Wouldn't let me say no so I let him. He didn't seem drunk or anything just nice and generous. It was shocking to me that someone would do that. He was very well dressed and looked like he could afford it.

The trouble with deer antlers is....do you have to hang them up so that your friends will see them? Ulp. Rolling Eyes

These are dropped antlers,no killing involved, and yes I will hang them up right next to the dropped elk antlers I brought down from Utah.

Yep, the "big game hunters" usually want the head mounted, not satisfied with dropped antlers.
Dropped antlers are pretty easy to pickup all over the West, mounted heads not so much.

This city woman didn't know that, so that's a comfort. I guess that then it just depends on your "decor" taste. Very Happy

Venison sausage is pretty tasty, if made right.  Prefer it over salami or chorizo.

Yes it is.
When I hunted elk in Utah it was for the meat, never for trophies, filled 6 tags over 8 years, spike only, the backstrap was my favorite cut.

If that elk is in a deep arroyo, just getting it "field dressed" is a big project, let alone collecting trophies.  They are heavy dudes to be pulling up a steep incline.  It makes you want take pictures. LOL
