Where will foreigners be retiring to?
“After studying 22 countries with sizable retirement communities, International
Living (a consultancy group) rated Mexico as the fourth most attractive country
for foreigners to retire to in 2013, after Ecuador, Panama and Malaysia. The
study looked at eight factors: real estate, benefits for retired people, cost of
living, integration, entertainment, health, infrastructure and climate.”

International Living is always selling something, not necessarily delivering reliable data.

Look something they don't count is how much is airfare home? All three of those places are expensive to fly to and from. Guad is cheap compared to flying home from Panama for example. If you go home twice a year to visit or shop you will be spending an extra 2K dollars compared to Guad airfare for a couple. If you are a home body go for it!

Panama is too hot and humid, likewise Indonesia.

New Zealand, while beautiful, is restrictive with their visas, particularly for retirees. Their financial requirements are considerably higher than Mexico's!espíritu del lago wrote:New Zealand in a heartbeat! It is on my radar! Absolutely beautiful county. A friend in England had thought about retiring there, until he found out the cut off age was 56... he'd just turned 58... quite a bit of money was also required to be eligible. I'd always heard it was similar to Oregon... second hand info..I've never been there... BUT I have seen all of the Lord of the Rings movies!

And you better have a lot of spending money for NZ. It is very expensive there. Higher than Canadian and Aussie prices.......
