Re: Prime rib
Eh? You never know, they may not know how to BBQ up there but I'll bet they sure know a good rib when they have one.
The eh was for Bob, I'm not Canadian

Re: Prime rib
Hahaha............I will never claim to BBQ a smoked brisket better than a South Westerner, that's for sure however I can give anyone a run for the money on baby back ribs or chili (or prime rib). I do need to get a smoker up and running as soon as I'm down.
BTW best homemade smoker I've seen was made out of an old pull handle metal refrigerator. I'm betting I can find one of those somewhere down there......

Re: Prime rib
Totaly agree with the refrigerator thing...I've got a booklet from an old boy in Montana on just how to do that...But I've been thinking that we should get off the BBQ thing & focus on a CHARCOAL-GRILL idea. That's what they are installing in the park here, & we could open the competition up to several catagories...pork ribs, beef ribs, & chicken. Once we get into pit bbq competition, we are talking some rather expensive portable pits, & the fun goes out of it, as there aren't enough bbq cookoffs here to justify the expense...same problem we had with joining ICS chili group @ $50 a pop for only one cookoff a year here...the few cookoffs up in Puerto Penasco drew 80 some cooks from Arizona & California, but they were CASI sanctioned, so you didn't have those crazy membership fees. BTW, although I've cooked ICS a few times, most of my chili cookin' was CASI. See http://www.chili.org/

Re: Prime rib
Unfortunately not until we move down this time next year. You guys will have to carry on without me until then. Guess I'll be at the 2nd Annual LCIL BBQ Championships...........
Re: Prime rib
There are 2 seasons in Canada...winter and PATIO...and every one of these frozen, tortured patios has a big BBQ. We have a very sharp, uphill learning curve for outdoor cooking. We too will be moving down at the same time as C-Bob next year. Hubby's slow cooked ribs are to die for...

Re: Prime rib
A salad catagory...Why not? My German wifes potato salad is always in demand at our local potlucks. Maybe a dessert competition...best mixed drink... the potential is endless!.. WE COULD MAKE THIS ANOTHER WOODSTOCK!...GET A BANDA IN FOR THE WEEK AND...Oh,... never mind.

Although I claim to be a Southwesterner, my first 20 years were spent in Spokane so I know all about crap winters. I do, however, fondly remember our summer vacations on Kootney lake. Hubby's gonna love the great ribs available here.
