has facilitated dozens of nearly new car sales.... speaks perfect English/Spanish,
will take you to as many Guadalajara Car Dealerships as necessary to find you what you are looking for...
he has a terrific rapport with these dealers, as he is known to them as someone who brings in paying customers...
he uses the services of a local shop to inspect the vehicles & covers transfers, registration, plating, & insurances.

Vehicles here tend to be about 10% - 15% more.... and Spencer's services are about $400...

If you are coming here to stay, sell your car for top dollar at home, then fly down and buy something here. Avoid the hassles and the need to take it back later. These Mexican roads take a toll on the vehicle. It won't be the same after a year or two here.......jaja.

You hardly ever drive the thing beyond a mile or two and it was a POS before it even got here. When's the last time you drove it into Guadalajara, up to Mazamitla or over to the coast. I'm thinking never...........jajajaja.

If you like you to keep your Jeep here permanently, than call a auto broker at the border crossing you chose. Give them your vehicle info and ask for a quote. Also ask how they process the car.

I would wait until March. Things are changing constantly.

When I advise people to leave their foreign plated car at home if they plan on staying here why would I drive one down......jaja. Besides, that has no bearing on what happens once you get the vehicle into Mexico and onto the potholes, topes and cobblestones. Plus the hassle of trying to nationalize it or get rid of it once 4 years have passed. I'm betting Mexico's next move is to not even allow Temporary Visa's no longer than 30 days or so to have that vehicle in the country.

I have done both...

I have purchased a vehicle in Guadalajara, using S&S Auto services...

I have brought a Canadian vehicle in,
paid to nationalize using broker services....
paid to plate it, using facilitator's services... ( twice... what an ordeal that was )
had emission test performed and bought insurances...



What would I do again...

SPENCER @ S&S AUTO .... thatz a no brainer!!

Bob, do you think it is better to buy a Mexican car that has lived it's whole life with potholes, topes, and cobblestones?  I don't.  

If your car is eligible for nationalization and you are at the border, then just do it (if you plan to live here).  It is not a hard process but it is a hassle.  When is dealing with a government agency not a hassle?  Brokers do make it easy.
Legally nationalized cars from the States bring a premium on the resale market here.

Gimme a for instance.

New or Late Model.. Ford, Nissan, Honda, BMW, Mercedes, Toyota are readily available in Guadalajara... in what way are American Models Superior or in Greater Demand?

guadalajara,mazamitla. to the coast and a lot of michoacan roads don't take no "toll" on yer vehicle except money sometimes. rick ranger contrary to yer belief has been there. yer vaunted ghetto on the other hand does take a toll on lesser vehicles than rick ranger . the road along christiania park won't anymore as it's being fixed. rick ranger because of really good suspension passes most o' you slow guys, who is afraid them cobbles is gonna wreck yer sports utility vehicles, at lightening speed. same with them rumble strips that y'all goofs limp across.
why do geezers buy suv's when they don't know what they is for and don't know how to drive 'em-SNORK!

i have asked this question many times and never received an answer nor even a source to find out about nationalizing my canadian registered truck and antique moto. i am at the point where i may just contact sonia and be done with it.

Can we backtrack a minute please?

I understand the part about a perm. resident can't drive a NOB plated car, but, I saw one comment above that he/she can't own a NOB plated car.

This one is hard to follow. I'm not talking about how it really works on the streets, but by the law.

So if I have a NOB plated car in my garage/driveway and don't drive it on the public streets, I'm in violation of some law?

Mexicans (in the past) would prefer trucks made in and legally exported from America/Canada than made in Mexico. (I would guess it's the same for cars)

It seems that being a Residente Permanente automatically makes owning a foreign plated car in Mexico illegal, in the garage or on the street. It is just that a car in the garage is not likely to be noticed by any authority.....unless they start a computer search to compare INM status with Banjercito records.
We did keep our J-car in the garage for a couple of years, until we were able to take it north with a Retorno Seguro at the time of our move. After 13 years in Mexico, it now sports AZ plates and is our daily driver. Although it is now sweet 16, it only has 80k miles and all systems work.

They still do prefer NOB used vehicles.  Today the number one requested truck is used USA Toyota PU's, 4x4's, 4 or 6 cylinders, no 8cyl's, clean with low miles.  I can sell these in Mexico all day.  On my next trip north, I will look for one to bring back.  Cars must have clean papers; CBP export stamp on US title, pedimento and factura.  Getting that is the trick.

About 15% of the cars at the GDL car swap are recent US imports.  Those seller are making money bringing the cars south.

I also have many former employees/friends that buy a car once a year in the States and resell back home here in MX.  They have been doing it for decades.

It is not where the vehicles are made, it is the roads the vehicle lived on.  When I buy cars lakeside and sell them in the USA, most Mexicans walk away when they find out the car was in Chapala for 5 years.  We know what the roads do to cars here and so do they.

Sorry Pete.  Maybe you should contact Sonia even though I don't know what she has ever done to deserve you.    Or call a broker at the border and ask them.

I just buy cars or drive cars north for people and sell them.

The safety standards(crash tests) are higher in a car made for the US market. Nor can you get a CarFax report. And not many topes and cobblestones to pound the suspension in the US. BTW--there seems to be an optimal speed for cobblestones of around 15-20 mph that seems to "level" out the bumps of either driving slower or faster. I've driven many country roads that are essentially madacam but are really just perpendicular ruts in the road which will really beat your suspension. Adjust your speed on your cobblestone street and see how much your keys "jump" hanging from your ignition. Every cobblestone street will be different depending on how the stones were laid.
