Canadian Passport Renewal
Having just renewed my Canadian passport from here I thought I would post the process. It is very easy and painless.
- Print and fill out these forms from the Canadian passport site:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/passport/forms/pdf/pptc482.pdf
http://travel.gc.ca/docs/pdf/cca_form_fields_en.pdf
- Get your new photo's taken. I used Genesis Photography on Ocampo across from Manix restaurant. Cost was $150 pesos.
- Take your forms, your old passport and your pictures to iShop (formerly Mailbox, etc.) just east of Superlake in San Antonio. They know what to do from there. The cost is $650 pesos to courier to/from the Canadian Embassy in Mexico City. The people at iShop know the address.
- When your new passport arrives back to iShop they will call you. Takes about 3 weeks.
Easy peasy......

Re: Canadian Passport Renewal
Do you have to have a mailbox/account at iShop to receive your passports?

Re: Canadian Passport Renewal
Yep. FYI....the 10 year passport is $260.00 CDN and you need at least 6 months left on your passport if you plan on entering the US so you may want to do it at least 8 months in advance of expiration. That's what I just did.
Re: Canadian Passport Renewal
Ooh, good to know! I definitely want to get the 10 year, so thanks again Bob for the great info!

Re: Canadian Passport Renewal
Bob, did you use a limo service for the courier service? I sent one in about a month ago and the return charge via Estafeta was about 425 pesos. If you don't specify, ishop will use the courier with the best commission for them. Estafeta is just as good.

Re: Canadian Passport Renewal
They choose to use DHL so that was good enough for me. It was there overnight.
Re: Canadian Passport Renewal
I decided to check this 6 month requirement and found a site which listed Canada as one of the countries exempt from this requirement.CanuckBob wrote:if you plan on entering the US so you may want to do it at least 8 months in advance of expiration.
A further check with US customs and border protection confirmed this.

Good news.

Good news.
It looks like this rule may only apply when flying out of a Canadian airport or by land across the Canada/US border, not for a Canadian citizen flying from Mexico through to the States!
(this is directly from that link) "All Canadian Citizens entering the United States by AIR are required to present a valid passport, or a NEXUS card when departing from a designated Canadian airport."

Canadian Citizens' passports are NOT required to be valid for six months past their intended date of departure. Their passports must only be valid up until the date of their intended departure.
That is the only point which I was making.

Bob: I provide a service for those Canadians who do not wish to go through the process themselves. This includes preparing the application, obtaining the "Cheque de Caja" if they don't want to use a credit card, couriering the application to Mexico City and receiving it on return. The client is called when it is received.
Costs are very important when providing this service and I prefer to give my money to a Mexican company rather than the German Post Office. Estafeta consistently provides overnight service to Mexico City. I have used them several time when buying from Mercado Libre and they consistently deliver faster than their policies state.
Many people of an advanced age are not willing to deal with the complexities of dealing with Government agencies. You are still young Bob.
I also provide assistance with applications for CPP, OAS and Canadian resident and non resident tax returns.
