Canadian Passport Renewal
Are Canucks able to renew their passports anywhere in the lakeside area? Does the consulate make visits?
Re: Canadian Passport Renewal
Unless the rules have changed........
When you apply for a Canadian passport, it's as if you have never had one before.
The paper work can be done in Guadalajara, sent to Mexico DF by courier, then sent to Canada.
You will get a tempory pass,(from Mex'DF) and be sent a new passport when you return to canada.

Re: Canadian Passport Renewal
So you can't have it sent to you in Mexico?
The renewal process is easy now. The Simplified Renewal Application Process allows Canadians to renew their passports without resubmitting proof of Canadian citizenship or supplementary identification and guarantor information. Some conditions apply.

If you lose your Canadian passport while visiting Mexico, you can get a Temporary one the same way.
Easier if you have a copy.

I guess it depends on how long you are staying.

Re: Canadian Passport Renewal
Don't they still do it in a day in Richmond, if you go in person?

Re: Canadian Passport Renewal
I'm not sure, I have to renew mine in a couple of months so I'll go check it out and let you know.
Re: Canadian Passport Renewal
Having lived in Mexico permanently for 15 years, I can tell you that you can renew your Canadian passport in Mexico.
A Canadian Consulate will take care of the paperwork and, because we do not have mail delivery in San Pancho, they will also accept the new one on your behalf. The application goes to the Canadian Embassy in Mexico City, then to Ottawa...and back
I don't know if you can renew it while here temporarily unless it's an emergency situation. Seems a whole lot easier to renew it in Canada than jump through the hoops down here.

Re: Canadian Passport Renewal
Thanks Ferret. Yes, I was asking on the premise that I lived there. Does a consulate rep ever come down to the lake or do you go up to Guad?
Re: Canadian Passport Renewal
Sorry Bob, I can't answer your question 'cuz we've renewed once with the Canadian Consulate in San Miguel de Allende and the other time at the Canadian Consulate in Puerto Vallarta.
If you find out about Lakeside visits from the Canadian Consulate in Guad would you please post it. Thanks.
Alternatively, I will try to call Guad and find out.

Re: Canadian Passport Renewal
I was going to renew here a few years ago, so I went to the Canadian Consolate and was told that to renew here was just the same a s the first time you applied in Canada. IE: you needed the guarantor ect, ect, ect. When you had the paper work done you gave it to the consolate, they sent it to the embasey in Mexico, they sent it to Ottawa. When it was done it was sent back to Mexico, then Guadalajara then to you. We go back for a month every July so I did the renewal in Kenora and had it in 8 days.

Re: Canadian Passport Renewal
Ellen renewed her passport down her. It was very simple and quick. All she had to do was to download the forms, fill them out, and head into Gdl to have them check. If everything is ok they will take the renewal fee and give you a receipt to attach to your application which is sent to Mexico City via courier. She had the new passport back in 10 days. It was processed completely in Mexico City. Just remember to make a photo copy of your old passport as you will be without for the time it takes. If you really want to be safe you could head to a notary and have the copy verified. The consulate in Gdl is in the World Trade Center building not to far from the Plaza del Sol.
