the guadalajara reporter ran this helpful missive this week. i am keeping one on mi moto and one in reggie renault to make sure the transito writes the proper amount on the folio if i warrant one.

FYI, Spencer also has very detailed information on these and just about all other MV laws on his site that you can d/l.

What Spencer gives is also in both English and Spanish with a citation to the appropriate code sections.

I still prefer the "Pay at the site of the (alleged) violation; better discount and less time. Plus, it gives money to the community.

The Transito officer does not write a fine amount on the folio, just the infraction and number.  The Recaudadora will tell you the amount when you pay and if you are eligible for the discount.

Which community?

I would imagine he is assuming that the transito will spend his mordida money within the community versus paying the fine to the government where the money will end up who knows where. There is definitely some truth to it.

Clueless: Do you know anyone who has gotten away with offering a measly 35-peso mordida for being caught for any of the common violations listed in the first block??? That's what a ticket would cost if paid within the 10 day period for 50% discount.

IMHO anybody who pays off traffic cops on the spot is complicit in a criminal act...and has no right to complain about corruption in Mexico.

Good point Metiche! Paying Mordida is ridiculous. Never have, never will. Last time they tried to shake me down......I kept insisting on the ticket......they finally gave up and left.
