Are there two American Legions?
I've passed a building on the carraterra in Riberas a few times with a big sign hanging form the balcony that says American Legion. Are there two American Legions? Just curious.

Yes there seem to be two, I've never been to the one in Riberas, only the one in Chapala by the park.

Any group of veterans can charter an American Legion Post. I live in a city of about 30,000 and there are 4 AL posts in the area, a few VFW's, and there used to be more. Around here, it's a way for a saloonkeeper to open up a "private club/bar" and makes it easier to get a liquor license. Most were probably formed after WWII when there were hundreds of thousands of vets mustered out of the military. I understand retired military started gravitating to lakeside going back to post-war times.

Well now I'll have to be more careful when I post Legion events and be sure I tell everyone which Legion it's at. I didn't realize we had that many veterans here. But hey, there is more of every body here these days.

I understand the AL post you are familiar with is/was one of the largest anywhere. I don't know what their membership requirements are, but some of the posts NOB allow "social" memberships. They can't vote or hold office and stuff like that, but they can eat and drink there even if they aren't vets. Up here, it's a way to boost membership. As I'm sure you're aware, the massive number of WWII vets is diminishing by about 2000/day and has been for some time.
