Internet Service in San Antonio
I'm moving to San Antonio. I need to use Internet for VOIP/Skype. What's the best service provider for that area? I understand Telmex DSL is real slow.
Also, does anyone have experience using cellular internet with a WIFI hotspot or dongle here in Lakeside as an alternative to DSL or cable?
Thanks,
John

Re: Internet Service in San Antonio
Upper Riberas, Santa Clara, about a block and a half up from the carretera.
We pay for 5 and get a solid five, every day, all day, we have not had any problems thus far, and have lived there since March 1, 2015, this is with Telmex

Infinitum service is analogues to 1995 dial-up. The best I can get here is 1.6 mbps uplink and something like .06 or .07 down with frequent (every hour or so) drops. MajicJack is choppy. Forget about streaming. Downloading a movie is an overnight affair.
The Board of Directors here recently surveyed 250 residents for issues the membership wanted the Board to act on. Internet service was issue #2. Telmex ignores or cajoles individual customers and ignores communication from the Board representing the whole community.
Service on or south of the Carretera seems to be just fine - >5 mbps.

Re: Internet Service in San Antonio
I believe you mean 1.6 down by .06 or 07 Mb/s up. Oh and that is much better than dial up. Dial/up here averaged less than 0.040 Mb/s down by about the same up
Actually Lagunanet, the first ISP lakeside offered only up/to 28.8 kb/s down by about the same up Oh, that's 0.028.8 Mb/s when they offered the first internet service here in the late spring of 1997
