Power of Attorney - Carta de Poder
Who has run into abuse of this paper by others who were trusted to only use it for what was agreed?

Not I.
Never heard of it happening.
Was a Notario involved?
Sounds like a Spencer type of question.

It depends on what it was granted for, did you give only certain powers? Was it specific or general? Who drafted it? Did you have an attorney representing you or did you let the other person put papers in front of you in a language you didnt understand?

It is not recommendable to grant a GENERAL POA, if you do that, you take the risk to lose the money in the bank and even your house... You can not trust that much, sometimes even the son, daughter, sister, friend.... when use it they take advantage of it, and send the grantor to a retirement home.
I am not saying it happen all the times, if you want to grant a GENERAL POA nobody is responsible but you.
It is much better to grant a LIMITED POA, in this case there is no risk.
Limited to sale a house, to buy a house, etc.
Cheers!!!.

In San Cristobal de las Casas, a woman gave a general POA o her attorney when she gave him her house to sell. He sold the house and kept the money. She had to go to court and it cost her plenty to recover some of the money..

Yes brigitte, it happens everywhere; we should share this to everybody... do not grant GENERAL POA, it has to be limited for your own security.
