Smoke alarms Empty Smoke alarms

Post by otrocanuck Sat Apr 04, 2015 7:38 pm

I have smoke alarms in all my rooms but none of them detect someone smoking cigarettes, it sure would be nic3e if they did.

Is there such an item available and if so where?

Airlines have them in the washrooms so they must be available. Try Goggling it.

I just did that Bob and discovered they are available and so I asked people who have purchased them in the past if they really work. They told me that they detect cigarette smoke but you have to blow it into the unit to activate it. Perhaps that is why the ones the airlines have installed work - the space is so small the smoke is very concentrated. What I have read about them is that cigarette smoke is filtered by the lungs so much (yuk) , what reaches the detector usually is not concentrated enough to set them off.

Smokealot I think the smoke detectors in airline rest rooms are far more sensitive than retail versions. Smokealot Beer :30:Not to mention the restrooms are PETITE!

House smoke detectors are designed not to go off in a room with a smoker so of course they didn't go off unless it is a real small room. If they did the battery would be pulled and voila no smoke detector. These things have to be designed with real life in mine. I agree with Jim regarding plane units.
